What It Feels Like To Read NFL Coverage In April

It’s not The Draw Play if I don’t make at least one comic every year about how annoying draft season is.
Just gotta get through it. Just gotta take it one day at a time. Breathe. Hopefully next week we will have more information on the apparent brewing Cardinals Bidwell scandal
Fan of a New York City team AND a draft hater… you and I couldn’t be much more different as football fans. And yet I still love the comic! Life is like a box of chocolates, after all… sometimes the other guy loves the coconut one that could kill you. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Seriously, though, check out my mock draft.
LORD IM SORRY FOR WHATEVER I DID TO DESERVE THIS PLEASE SAVE ME
The funniest thing to me about the draft are the people who consume all these mock drafts, convince themselves that their team MUST draft Player A and then get irrationally upset that their team didn’t draft Player A but instead took Player B. They then proceed to spend the next decade following Player A’s career in an attempt be proven right that they know better than their favorite team’s GM.
I’ve always just waited for the draft, watch it because it’s a fun spectacle (even if it was better before it was a 3 day thing) and then read up on everyone my team drafted. Seems so much simpler and less irritating.
Reminds me of Dwayne Haskins.
This describes far too many Giants fans about Jones. Some were legitimately angry when fans were posting positive things about him as the team did well then won their first playoff game in a decade.
I remember that one, while I was bummed but at the same time I felt the fans were being unfair towards Daniel Jones as neither him nor Haskins had played at the time.
Jones may not be great but we dodged a bullet with Haskins.
With how people are predicting that the Giants will flop next season because of a questionable contract, I hope the guy proves them wrong. The team still has tons of issues that are needed to be addressed though.
Mock drafts deserve to be mocked.
Speaking of, you should do one for the Jets’ draft history for hilarity (though in all fairness some of the picks weren’t bad, just that they got lumped in together with stupid picks like Roger Vick).
I always like this annual comic as I feel the same way. I look into the draft a few days before it happens. I don’t want to hear about it anytime before the week it occurs. I get angry when seeing the first mock drafts come out in November
At this point I long for the days of nothing but mock drafts, the LJ8 saga has just about killed me
The idea of being consumed by mock drafts is oddly hilarious. Good thing I don’t pay attention to the draft till after it’s over.
I stopped paying attention long ago.
I’ll be excited to see the rookies in preseason and I’ll check out the college tape of whoever my team drafts after the draft, but right now The Draw Play is the only thing on my NFL tab that I’m bothering to read.
Normally I’m very much against companies sticking previously free to access content behind pay-walls. But PFF doing that with their Mock Draft Simulators is probably the single best decision they’ve ever made.
Makes as much sense as doing a March Madness bracket. And I bet not a single one made it to the Sweet 16 this time, never mind the Elite Eight.
To see what folks have done to the fun pastime Joel Buchsbaum kicked off, man, it’s sad.
so, your first attempt at this comic would be a draft mock draft mocking.
I’m one of those weirdos who actually really likes Mock Season…..generally speaking. I like the sheer optimism of it all. Every team has a thousand different ways to go, tons of different strategies, and every player has the potential to be a surprise hit. For whatever reason, I really enjoy reading through prospects and seeing different scenarios for the teams I support.
I will say, however, that by this time you tend to get a serious amount of group-think and the mocks just aren’t different enough. For example: the Vikings were mocked a DB in EVERY draft for a solid month. Then they were mocked a WR in EVERY draft for a solid month. Now they’re being mock a QB in nearly EVERY draft, despite having way more needs than those. It’s either some weird collusion, or just brain rot. I’d like to see just one draft where they take DL so I can at least know a little bit more about who’s out there that may be in that range.
I’ll go with something between brain rot and the greater fool theory.
The only mock draft you will ever need:
1-01: Stetson Bennett
1-02: Skip Bayless
… Please clap.
As someone who doesn’t follow college football, I don’t know any of the players my team picks even existed until I look them up.
