Urban Meyer Does What’s Necessary
The chances Tebow was going to work out were always exceptionally low. Hasn’t played ball for most of the past decade. Playing in a new position he never played before. Urban Meyer being the only guy who would have given him a fair and honest chance and Tebow’s own commitment to his body were never going to be enough. Him making the final 53 would have taken a level of blindess by Meyer or exceptional odds beating by Tim, even on a team so full of holes as the Jags. His tape in the Browns game went viral for being so woefully ineffective at blocking. So now I just gotta laugh at all the people who bought Jags Tebow jerseys as the inevitable hammer came down. If Tim Tebow has a future in football, it isn’t on the field.
Farewell, Timmy. You were great content. You were not very good at professional level football.
ive watched that “block” maybe a couple hundred times
its so bad its good
Which one? There was a second one.
I’m just saying Tim Tebow gets cut and the Taliban come back to power..
Holy shit
This is where the “shocked eyes” emoticon would have been a good fit.
Funny thing is the block that went viral wasn’t a terrible chip block. He sealed off the lineman, just like a lead blocker is supposed to do in a power run. It was terrible footwork, so he fell instead of following through and moving into the second level.
Now, the very next play, where Curtis Weaver rag dolled him so hard it took out two other blockers? That was hilaribad.
Hey Dave you gonna do anything with the Browns-Giants joint practices?
Tebow may well have a future on the field as a sideline reporter.
I doubt it. He’s .. not really that smart. You can watch him on ESPN / SEC network, and it’s just..
He doesn’t really know the game.
Firstly, thanks for more Jags content! I feel seen. When he got cut, I couldn’t help but imagine it in a comic with Urban as Jon Snow and Tim as Daenerys in that final scene. Or perhaps as Urbanius Pilate, with the NFL Twitter mob demanding that he choose O’Barabbassy over Tebus. But this captures the mood very well too.
I thought it was a mistake to sign him over just bringing back Eifert, signing Jesse James, or any number of other players that would probably be our TE1 right now. That being said, it was sad to imagine how this conversation must have been, and how robbed we were by not getting to see it on Hard Knocks since they picked the Cowboys again.
When are we getting a “The Grapes of Wrath” comic?
Never should’ve given in to pleasures of the flesh. His virginity was the source of his power.
I dislike tebow but I mean he probably still better then around 5 starting qbs and kaep so…
…. what?
Do you really believe a guy who hasn’t taken a regular season professional football snap in 9 years is really better than 5 starting qbs? He wasn’t even better than 5 starting QBs when he last tried out for a QB position.
I mean forget the hype, this guy couldn’t even get a third string QB slot in any team.
Do you dislike Tebow? Do you? You dislike a guy who sucked yet still think he’s better than current QBs and Kaep? What sport do you watch
Kaep wasn’t even that great but I’d take him as my QB any day over Tebow. I mean fuck, Kaep had like the same skillset Tebow did and yet he was better in basically every way.
Please name 5 starting QBs right now that Tim Tebow, a guy with one genuine good game to his name 9 years ago, is better than.
Sure, Kaep went a Super Bowl and nearly went to another one but no way is he as good as the guy who couldn’t hit a wide open receiver ten yards down field.
dammit Dave, stop reminding us that we’re the only team with a playoff loss to Tebow.
Sincerely,
A steelers fan
I don’t get how people can have this take.
Better than five starting QBs and Kaep? Really? I mean really?
None of his stats say that. The only stat that has anything going for it is “He’s got a playoff win.”
Well, Mark Sanchez has four playoff wins and a better passer rating, and I wouldn’t be celebrating him as “better than 5 current starters”
Everyone has their biases, I suppose. In Madden, Kaep still has a better rating than about half of the starting QB’s. And if you go to sign Kaep it says “Congratulations!” and urges you to confirm, compared to when you sign any other QB–Bortles for example–it says “Are you sure?” Though in the case of Bortles, I understand the hesitancy.
This is a very bizarre take to say the least.
Who exactly is a 33 year old Tim Tebow better than? During Tebow-mania he was arguably the worst starting QB in the league, so I find it very, very hard to believe that he’d be any better nearly a decade removed from his last official start at QB and nearly 5 since his last snap in general.
And being better than Colin Kaepernick, another terrible QB with multiple years out of football, isn’t exactly a high bar. But even with that comparison, he’s not better than Kaep. Not even close to it.
White-hot taek there, Skippy.
Kaep after 2013 is a really low bar.
He had about as much chance of making the 53 as Brock Lesnar, another great athlete who hadn’t played the position since at least high school.
Still, he did his job (bring more eyeballs to the preseason). When you go 1-15, I’m inclined to believe that there’s no such thing as bad publicity, and it’s not like their roster is so stacked that he took the spot of some amazing prospect.
I honestly thought he’d make the 53. Not his football abilities but for entertainment purposes. Let’s face it… the team is not going to be very good. But Tebow pulls a crowd and sells stuff. With the NFL becoming more and more of a business 1st model, I really thought he’d make it.
Haha the last two comments above me are so contrasted
Hey you have my old TDP name
Masshole here. I remember shaking my head when I saw a kid in the lobby of the movie theater wearing a Tebow Pats jersey.
I had honestly forgotten about that.
Ah yes, that time people unironically thought Tebow was coming to be Brady’s successor for like 3 weeks. Fun period.
Anyone who legit thought that was damned a moron. Billy Five Aces just grabbed him so the defense could practice against something approaching an RPO. Brady can do a lot of things, but RPO is not one of them.
Cardinals and Saints need a TE… coincidence I THINK NOT
I don’t know why I all of a sudden thought about New Jack City. Weird.
“Are you my brothers keeper?” “Yes I am.”
Great comic seriously funny
My constant refrain about Tebow is his folks really screwed him up. They imbeded him with the “Strong Christian Male Leader” stuff, and that led to him forcing himself into being a QB when he did not have the eye for it. His natural gifts and good coaching let him get a little success on the Pro Level, but he was never going to be great. If he had been an RB his entire career, he probably would have been great. But no, he had to be alpha male Christian leader.
He is way too slow for a NFL Rb. He ran a 4.72.
