Tony Romo’s Fetish
I give Cris Collinsworth (and formerly Joe Buck) a lot of crap on this blog so maybe it’s time to rip apart Tony Romo. Romo typically doesn’t bother me as much as Collinsworth does for the simple fact that he’s more avoidable. Collinsworth is on SNF: there are no other options. You are trapped in that booth with Crissy boy and he’s going to fawn over the players he loves to your face no matter how you feel about it. Romo is on CBS during Sunday afternoons. You pretty much always have options to watch someone else, at least until the playoffs. Redzone will cover him very well. So you can effectively ignore Romo should you so choose. If Romo is calling a Chiefs game, I would advise doing so.
We got stuck with Romo and Nantz this past weekend for Bills/Chiefs and since it was the final game on of the day, Redzone couldn’t cover it so I had to watch it normally. I was swiftly reminded of how irritating Romo has become. Romo wasn’t always like this. He used to be good! He bumped “That’s right Jeeem” Phil Simms out of the booth and instantly caught fire with his golden retriever enthusiasm and insight into plays. Even Jim Nantz seemed much livelier and invigorated with Romo at his side. However it didn’t take long before Romo’s habits started to become irksome. It was when Mahomes ascended that Romo truly became insufferable. You’d think Tony Romo married into the Glazer family with how much he cums for Mahomes in every game he calls.
Even Collinsworth doesn’t glaze players as hard as Romo is for Mahomes. Mahomes has not been that good this year. He’s become a checkdown king, his interceptions are up, and he’s just generally not performing like the Mahomes we were all entranced by several years ago. You wouldn’t know it listening to Romo, who will watch Mahomes throw an awful dirt pass and still praise him for it. Having him in the booth for Bills/Chiefs just resulted in the worst glazing you’ll ever hear. The ropes that were shot could fill an Olympic pool. the Bills and Josh Allen were marching the field, winning the game, and Romo still wouldn’t shut the fuck up about Mahomes. Josh Allen rumbles his way into the endzone on 4th down to effectively seal it and Romo STILL spent more time going “It’s not over yet! Not with 15 on the other side over there! Not with any time left on the clock!”. Josh Allen just made one of the best plays of the year and all Romo could do was get hard for Mahomes. The Bills get the big win and Romo talks about how this is actually good for the Chiefs down the road. I think if Mahomes made a pass at Tony Romo he would leave his wife in a heartbeat to lick his boots.
I don’t like to kink shame, but kinks should stay private as the general public cannot consent. Tony Romo should keep his Mahomes fetish to himself. What gets him hard knocks is a private matter. I do not like hearing a grown man edge himself during football games.
I have joined on the lions bandwagon
This is incredibly savage (especially the hover text) and I am here for it. Nantz and Romo were in the booth for the 13-seconds game, which is probably when Romo’s passion reached full flower.
Worse than any Romo moment I can think of this year was Kevin Harlan shouting “Oh no! Look out!” (not in an announcer-y way, but in a genuinely-trying-to-warn tone of voice) as Mahomes was about to take a blind side sack against the Broncos. I generally like Harlan, but yeeeesh…
I had not visited this site for a long while.
Today i saw something that made me think that football is better when treated with humor.
That reminded me of this site to i decided to see if it still existed and what was going with it.
Apparently the answer is:
“Still talking about Tony Romo”.
Okeeeeyyyyy.
That’s just bad timing on your part then because Romo is not a regular subject of discussion anymore
Oh, please. Stop lying, Dave. Every time Romo makes a horrible call, you’re right there on Twit-X, saying dumb things like, “He made a bad call on purpose there, because he had Jim Nantz in his face. Romo has got such great instincts… it’s a winning call.” You’re obsessed with him, I think it’s time you came clean.
blueberrysky now bb
I thought the joke was funnier using Twit-X since Dave was just talking about getting off of it a fewish days ago. Bwahahaha!
These announces frothing at their mouth for Mahomes and other certain players (Brady, Manning) makes the player less likable oddly enough.
The only exception is John Madden and Bret Gave. That was the original so it was still novel.
I don’t know why but there’s something…..cursed….. about Romo’s wife.
I have a fun game I play where anytime Dave draws a blond – man or woman – I assume it’s Trevor Lawrence. Sometimes, as in this case, it makes the comics extra funny.
*scrolls up*
It DOES!
Your comment made me look back and see the hint of cleavage I missed when I thought it was Trevor Lawrence.
Strip is still funny but I thought Romo making another QB wear Mahome’s jersey worked even better.
It’s getting to the point where Dave might involuntarily be drawing every blond as Trevor Lawrence and can’t avoid it.
Mr Dave, or should I call you draw play,
I’ve read every comic you’ve written, I’m a patreon supporter, I listened to the podcast, and was saddened when it stopped being made.
So please don’t take this from anywhere but a position of a supporting fan.
You cannot draw a blond woman that doesn’t look exude Trevor Lawrence.
You draw blond women as Trevor Lawrence like Romo makes every QB comparison to mahomes. I don’t think either of you can help it.
Brilliant comic, but seeing t.law in drag in the second panel, and having to be told it was “romo’s wife” took me out of this one so much laughing at the meta humor.
Dave, thoughts on the abrupt end of the Daniel Jones Era??
I thought his wife was Trevor Lawrence at first.
It’s unfortunate considering Tony Romo gave Josh Allen good advice before his third breakout season.
“Oh Mike he doesn’t like Chris Collinsworth. Back when I used to play I used to slap guys on the ass and yell yee haw. Just like Patrick Mahomes. Isn’t he great?!?!?”
That was some top drawer quality dissing right there and that’s because not only was it very well written and FAF, it was accurate. Thanks for the laughs, Dave.
If Romo married into the Glazer family wouldn’t he be gushing over Mayfield instead? The Hunts own the Chiefs.
The joke in that sentence is the word Glaze
I really used to like Tony Romo as an analyst a few years ago. He was enthusiastic and insightful. I felt like I was actually learning some when he’d break down plays. He kind of reminded me of Madden in some aspects. His psychic moments where he’d call a offensive play well in advance were amazing. Romostradamus anyone? Then, sometime around 2021, he began his regression into simpdom and obnoxiousness. Not only does he belaud Mahomes for merely breathing at a frequency rivaling Collinsworth, he’s also lost his once crisp chemistry with Jim Nantz. He frequently talks over him and rambles on into meaningless and garbled tangents. He seems to lose track of the very game he’s watching at times. He still has the occasional psychic moment and then even though their now much fewer and far in between.
I think it has to do with the fact he’s been removed from the game for 8 years now. Now pair this with what I perceive is his decreasing desire to adequately prep for calling games the way he used to when he was fresher off the field back in 2017-2020, and you have a recipe for his slow and painful decline in his broadcast abilities.
