Dungy’s comments, while misguided even then, made sense before the draft when literally no one knew exactly how little of a “distraction” Michael Sam would be and there was genuine fear of such a thing happening.
Hell, I’m bi, and I’d have been scared to take the dude: his skillset doesn’t translate well to the NFL and I’d be afraid that other players would resent a player who would have to be picked late regardless getting a ton of attention in their stead. Maybe I underestimated the professionalism and/or inclusiveness of NFL players, which would be really cool! The best thing to come out of Sam’s being drafted and such is how no player on the Rams has come out as vehemently against him, even anonymously, as far as I can tell.
It’s such a shame that I have to root for him to fall out of the league, or at least the Rams, because if he can make their absurd juggernaut of a defensive line, it’s more really good players in the NFC for the Bears to find a way to fuck themselves over against. I’m at least happy that the Bears were going to bring him in as a UDFA, or would have tried to.
I think people are calling him a homophobe due to the fact that he is/was an active supporter of anti gay marriage groups and then made the above comments a few weeks after his excuse of a distraction had already been resolved.
What Dungy said was honest and reflected the views of a lot of coaches in the league. It wasn’t homophobic, it was true. Michael Sam simply does not have the talent to make up for the fact that he is a distraction in the league. Sucks, but I wouldn’t want to be the one being called a homophobe for cutting a guy because he isn’t good enough to make the third string.
I see Sexy Rexy’s tastes are as impeccable as ever.
I actually have a tradition of having your old Dungy wallpaper as my desktop for the preseason and week 1(http://www.thedrawplay.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/1440×9003.png).

I’ll be having nightmares tonight. That Tony Dungy is completely terrifying. Especially with the blinking.
I might have just yelled “Jesus!” after the first time I realized it was Tony Dungy blinking and not me.
Yeah I was slightly unsettled when Dungy blinked. I could feel him looking into my soul.
This shit is magic.

THANK. YOU.
I hate how everyone is getting on Dungy and calling him a homo-phobe for being honest.
Ditto.

Well thanks for the nightmares David.
Okay, Dungy blinking freaked me out

It should be called Sportorgasm. One word. Sounds better.
I need to reread the ticker headlines about another 1,000 times to scrub Dungy out of my head.
