Now Alex Smith. Kansas City gets to keep the proud tradition of grabbing old 49er QB castoffs. The Chiefs also get to keep that streak alive of not having a QB they drafted win them a game since 1987 or something absurd. The Chiefs picked a bad year to be the worst team in the league without a QB, the draft has no surefire QB prospects. So the Walrus decided to take the initiative and sign soon to be cast off Alex Smith (for a 2nd rounder and a conditional mid rounder). The Chiefs also re-signed Dwayne Bowe to run deep and laugh when Alex Smith underthrows the ball.
Still, if Alex can operate the Walrus’s deep system they could make a play at the wildcard. I don’t see them beating out Peyton for the division though.
Don’t forget Steve DeBerg!!! He had stops in Denver and Tampa in between (where he got to “mentor” John Elway and Steve Young), but he actually the first of the Niners retreads to start as the Chiefs QB from 1988-1991.
Kansas City is in Missouri.
He might choose to live in Kansas City, Kansas just across the river, you never know. I hear it’s nicer there anyway.
I normally agree with your blurbs at the bottom, but I have to correct you on something.
Smith overthrows deep, not underthrows. This is important becasue the “noodle arm” wrap he gets is a bad one. He’s gt excellent arm strength, he just isn’t a great judge of where to place the deep ball.
“if Alex can operate the Walrus’s deep system they could make a play at the wildcard. I don’t see them beating out Peyton for the division though.”
Wow, 9 months later and this was spot on. Good call.
