Happy Halloween!
Just continuing my annual tradition of spending Halloween making creepy Joe Buck comics.
I know some people don’t hate him as much as I do, but the thing that always stands out to me about Joe Buck is that for all the games he calls, none of his famous calls seem to be positive. His most famous moments are his infamous stupid disgust at Randy Moss “mooning” the Packers and his incredibly uninspired call of the helmet catch that makes it sound like a routine 3 yard slant. If you see footage of the helmet catch these days, the audio version that gets used is always Giants radio man Bob Papa’s call instead of Buck’s. Buck is honestly just dull most of the time, sprinkles of bias and smug, and the occasional godawful attempt to make something sound exciting.
I hope the Mets/Royals series goes to game seven so he stays away for just a bit longer.
he always sounds like he’s aggravatedly yelling the play-by-play at you. like, “OKAY MOM, ROMO DROPS BACK IN THE POCKET AND FINDS DEZ BRYANT ON A CROSSING ROUTE FOR AN EIGHT YARD GAIN, ARE YOU HAPPY?!”
like any minute he’s going to tear off his headset and stomp off to his room to listen to linkin park and think about how much he hates you
He just wants his father’s love.
That would imply Buck never got past his teen angst phase.
Sounds like you’ve heard the “Shoepisser” legend that circulates every so often on Fark.
Damn you missed a chance to have him call Tannehill’s botched snap.
I usually don’t take much notice of football announcers unless and until they take on a different tone of voice when they are trying to make a dramatic call “for the ages” (I’m talking about you, Mike Tirico). I’ve taken more notice of Joe Buck since you disparage him so often, and, yes, he can irritate me, if I’m taking notice. I guess I trained myself to ignore announcers during the Dan Dierdorf era. My alltime fave combo was Jack Buck and Hank Stram. I would turn the tv down and turn the radio on.
I am glad I am not the only one who noticed that about Tirico.
Joe is also very arrogant. When KC fans were berating him for his mancrush on Madison Bumgarner, Joe was playing along and agreeing. I just don’t get why FOX thinks he is so wonderful.
“joe pls go”
“no”
Joe Buck is the Ralph Pootawn of The Draw Play, calling that right now.
and as he stands over the still-steaming corpse of your buzz, he whispers “Joe Buck Yourself” and fades away into the night
You sir are a comedy genius and thus gets the Joe Buck(ing) Best award.
That guy looks kinda like a Manning. Big forehead.
I’m hoping he’ll accidentally let a “no flags” slip out while calling a base ball game
My least favorite isn’t buck (although he is close), it’s CBS’s top golf commentators, Phil simms and Jim Nantz. Nantz has no energy while simms is unbearable (with Aikman on the other side of Buck being just as bad). Where are Gus Johnson and Greg Gumbel when you need them (oh yesh, Johnson is covering division 2 basketball and Gumbel is stuck covering some crappy team getting schooled by a semi-good team)
My least favorite is Collinsworth. Jesus he needs to shut up. He tries so hard to talk over everything that he comes up with random bullshit just so he can talk more. He enjoys shitting on a team after any misplay too. Gruden, in contrast, will praise teams for doing well.
I give Buck/Aikman credit for one thing: When a big emotional play/moment happens, both of them shut up and let the atmosphere of the stadium speak for itself. The Helmet Catch wasn’t a touchdown, it would be largely forgotten today if the Giants hadn’t scored on that drive. The Plaxico TD that followed, Buck actually got a little hyped up (“Manning lobs it… Burress…. ALONE! TOUCHDOWN NEW YORK!”), and then they both went silent until after the XP was kicked.
Ever notice that Aikman and Buck are so like the cartoon dogs, you know the big bulldog and little one who jumps around him, “he’s my hero”:
LEAVE JOE BUCK ALONE! your lucky he even announces for you bastards………..lohaaa!
I have never legitimately meet anyone in person that has said they liked Joe Buck. At best you get a “he’s okay” I usually mistrust those people that say that
“Sprinkles of bias”?! I’m a lifelong Texas Rangers fan and when they played the Cardinals in the World Series Joe Buck was a full on torrent of bias. During the games I wasn’t at I actually muted the television broadcasts and listened to a radio broadcast because Joe Buck was unbearable.
This comic really misses his ugly MLB playoff beard.
