Gronk’s Final Mission

Gronk retired! Again.
I already did the Gronk retirement discussion so I won’t rehash it here. Hall of famer, is arguably the best TE to ever play the game at his peak. He added another ring to his resume but it didn’t change his fate at all, he’s going in first-ballot and should.
Now he can finally enlist and get those sweet, sweet, mediocre USAA benefits. Still the worst commercials from last year, I can only hope they don’t make any more of them for next season.
Yeah, my dad served in the early 60s and got out the day he was eligible….he did have USAA insurance, though, and when he died I managed it for my mom.
I dunno maybe their service when you have to make a claim is fantastic, but given the mediocre at best customer service I got from them, and that you certainly don’t save money on premiums, I just don’t get the hype.
I don’t get why they run ads that everyone can see if they’re only going to provide service to such a select group
you’d think anyone that was eligible would already know
I heard USAA used to have really great customer service for a while but recently someone new was put in charge and everything went downhill into the usual insurance bullshit
My dad served in the Navy, and I’ve been a USAA member courtesy of his service for going on 20 years. I have absolutely zero complaints. We had a big kerfluffle this last year, I won’t go into details, but my mom was in and out of physical therapy for a few months and nobody was paying her bills, so her coverage was all canceled. I’m not sure how another insurance company would have handled it, but I noticed absolutely zero in the way of a dropoff. I’ve had nothing but fantastic customer service through them over the years.
I too have had USAA through my Dad’s Navy service and the three Auto claims I put in in my 30 years driving the Customer Service has been great. And the dividend is nice as well, not huge but money back is money back.
I don’t understand why the advertise so much though it is a select group of customers, bigger now that it is open to more than just officers and their families, just still not big enough to waste money on Gronk.
does gronk have a condom attached to his helmet
Because he’s Gronk. El es fiesta!
I mean, given the big hubbub when he started playing with a twitter pic of pornstar Bibi Jones in a Gronk jersey, makes sense. Though maybe it was a big kerfuffle over nothing.
Gotta protect the heads.
It’s for the war crime
The problem is that by making the terrible commercials, they got everyone to talk about them (and even make comics about them), and thus probably got way more business than if they had made decent commercials.
I dunno, I think the argument that they were effectively a recruiting tool is the right one. The entire point of the commercials is that USAA is only available to a select group of people who probably already knew about it so to get it, go join the army
That wouldn’t make any sense though unless the ads are being somehow subsidized by the DOD.
And even then, wouldn’t it be far less effective then the existing recruitment ads for all the branches? Those don’t require any paid celebrities. Also I’m not sure there’s that much of a target audience (18-25 year olds) that was on the fence about enlisting but might be motivated by “Hey I might save a little on my homeowners insurance in 15-20 years.” And if so wouldn’t they already know about the mortgage, tuition and other VA benefits that are available outside of a USAA account?
As a side note while the ads themselves are dumb, I do think Gronk does a good job of leaning into the dumbness. He’s always seemed to not to take himself too seriously, and I hope he gets vehicles to pop up in ads and random shit.
I can think of some commercials that were worse (even if we limit ourselves to football-related ones, every Peyton Manning sings country songs one would rank higher for me) – but at least those other ones weren’t centered around a central message of “You can’t use our product! Ha ha!”. So if we’re ranking based on that factor specifically, they’re worse – but that part has nothing to do with Gronk.
I remember JJ Watt had a campaign of Gatorade commercials basically stating that you can’t drink it unless you’re sweating. There’s many other reasons to drink Gatorade
Honestly though, are there? Gatorade isn’t something you really drink for the flavor
Hangovers or illness. Any condition that would strip electrolytes from the body, though if it is really serious you are probably drinking Pedialyte instead of Gatorade.
And I do know people that just drink Gatorade as their beverage of choice.
Man that’s weird, gatorade is a great workout/recovery drink but it’s too salty and strange for just sipping round the pool or whatever
I will admit the Glacier Cherry flavor is pretty tasty but it’s milky white in color and I don’t want to sit around at a party drinking what looks like a bottle of sperm
“oh im just a psychopath who wanted a state sanctioned way to kill people”
ooooof
So it’s not for a solid excuse when Tahmmy asks him to unretire again?
“oh im just a psychopath who wanted a state sanctioned way to kill people”
Take it easy Ted Rall. Christ on a cracker you could take that line out and put something like “I got lost after a bad night in vegas and woke up in a recruiting room. Thats why they call me snake eyes.”
I could take it out, but I enjoy that it makes you mad
Well, YMMV. I have had USAA for over 40 years without any complaints at all. They also offer financial services—banking, credit cards, investment management. They probably advertise on the NFL because that is the most likely thing their potential clients watch. I would guess they do not advertise on The View.
