Dez Bryant Wants To Play For The Right Team
The right team is any team.
I’m surprised Dez hasn’t found a home yet (if he doesn’t end up signed by the time this goes live). I knew he was in decline but he must be actually picky or just not nearly as good as I thought he was. He said he wants to play for a contender, but every veteran who gets cut after a long stint and can’t find work spouts that same meaningless line. I’m convinced it’s mostly used to save face, to try and handwave away the fact that they haven’t found a team yet. It’s a meaningless statement. What player doesn’t want to play for a contender? What player would prefer to be on the dysfunctional bad garbage teams? Joe Thomas?
But then they end up signing somewhere for cheap after waiting a long time and realizing they don’t have the leverage they expect to have. Connor Barwin used the same “contender” line recently and just signed with the Giants. The Giants will likely be better than last year but even the biggest Giants homer doesn’t expect them to do anything soon. It’s just a line. Technically, with how fair the NFL is, anyone could reasonably contend every year. That’s kind of the beauty of it. Maybe not in the AFC but the NFC sure knows how to do it right. If you want to play on a true contender, go to the Pats, Steelers, or anyone in the NFC not from Detroit and you have a reasonably high chance of being in the right place at the right time.
I’ve heard of rumors for Dez to like, every team. I have no idea what to expect from him anymore.
He’ll never admit it, but deep down, I think Dez must be kicking himself for turning down that 3-year offer from Baltimore by now. Who would’ve known that was actually the only serious offer he’d ever get?
“What player doesn’t want to play for a contender? What player would prefer to be on the dysfunctional bad garbage teams? Joe Thomas?”
Lol wow, Dave, that’s harsh.
That does remind me though, latest news have been linking Dez to the Browns, because if I’ve read it correctly Josh Gordon has apparently gone AWOL with training camp about to start(of course he said it’s for personal treatments or something, but the timing smells fishy, if that was true why didn’t he get that help earlier when teams weren’t actually seriously preparing for the season?) and in case Gordon will miss significant time the Browns would be interested in having Dez for just a year, which is just the kind of contract Dez wants at this moment.
I usually tune out all Dez news these days, so that’s the first news I’ve heard in a long time because it made its way up front where it’s quite visible.
Though I have to admit, after all the ‘NFC East team!’ and ‘contender!’ stuff he’s said, it will be hilarious if he does end up in Cleveland.
” Josh Gordon has apparently gone AWOL with training camp about to start(of course he said it’s for personal treatments or something, but the timing smells fishy, if that was true why didn’t he get that help earlier when teams weren’t actually seriously preparing for the season?)”
He’s away with leave, according to him and the team. It’s because he had a sudden urge due to anxiety at the beginning of the preseason and sought out treatment rather than self-medicating.
Anyway, please no to Dez. He’s not better than Landry or Coleman, and beyond them he’d just block guys who might actually develop while on cheap contracts, like Callaway.
*At this point in his career, he’s not better than Landry or Coleman.*
“Josh Gordon went AWOL” – left to do weed with the 2012 lions and ricky williams circa 2004
The only other dysfunctional franchise besides the Lions in the NFC is the Redskins, but they seem to be in the thick of things near the end of the season every year. Did you know that the Bears and Bucs haven’t seen the playoffs in 7 and 10 years respectively? Crazy right? RIP Sexy Rexy.
Bucs are bad
But they are always the sexy pick for dark horse to win the NFC south every year somehow.
“or anyone in the NFC not from Detroit” – Dave throwing that accurate shade.
It would be great to see Dez in Cleveland, but I honestly don’t care where he lands. I’m sure it will be somewhere though as he’s got a few more years in him.
He’ll get signed after training camp.
Dez isn’t even good any more
Watch Dez end up in Quebec catching passes from Johnny Manzel
PS I miss pez fez and prez Bryant 🙁
Once the players start getting injured during training camp / preseason, then he’ll sign with a team… only to be placed on IR after 2 weeks.
