Cole Beasley Logs On

There were always going to be plenty of players who didn’t get the vax and who bought into the bad faith anti-science arguments, but most have the good sense to not bring it up or at the very least wait until asked and give a simple answer. But there were also always gonna be the one or two guys who proudly shouted their nonsense into the world, and I guess Cole Beasley has become the defacto “covidiot” of the league.
Man I hope the Delta variant doesn’t put us back in lockdown even with vaccinations.
Also, unrelated, but congrats to the Bucks!
I’ll try not to do anything stupid when my family and I go to Hungary.
the irony of it all is that vaccines have given rise to a world where so many can live beyond what historically have been lethal infections, and they use that world to
say vaccines are dangerous or ineffective
Wonder when the Bills coaching staff realizes that he’s a 10 year veteran and doesn’t fit in the overall scheme the team has, and that it’s a business decision to send him packing into retirement.
Delta won’t put us back in lockdown. It’s only spreading through unvaxxed communities, and deaths shouldn’t be (and aren’t) very high at all because the vast majority of the elderly population is vaccinated.
Moral of the story: get vaxxed people, then this stuff isn’t a humongous problem.
This.
Plus it helps having actual, competent leadership.
That’s actually not factual. I know several people who have got the virus after having the vaccine. Some had the original variant. They say the delta variant is worse, even with the vaccine. While the vaccine helps, it does not eliminate the threat. That’s not fearmongering. That’s just an unfortunate truth. The majority of individuals in my area getting delta are not vaccinated. But just last night I spoke with someone in the medical field who deals directly with covid patients and she told me that about 1 in 5 people that she’s dealt with this week have had both vaccination shots and still tested positive and were not asymptomatic.
Unfortunately, this is true. I know two people who got the virus who were vaccinated. I’m not sure if it was delta or not, but I think it was.
Odds are those 1 in 5 had regular flu-like symptoms and not the bad covid ones though, which is why everyone should still get vaccinated.
To be clear, I wasn’t discounting what you said. Just that saying “It’s only spreading” isn’t factual. It’s primarily spreading through unvaxxed communities. Your moral of the story is still dead on.
It won’t put us back in lockdown because ultimately lockdowns are not a permanent measure, they are designed to buy time. Early on, flattening the curve so that hospitals could keep up, and trying to save lives until a vaccine arrived meant that lockdowns were super important. Now, this is pretty much as good as it’s going to get, especially once ages 3-12 can get the vaccine. There’s nothing to buy time for anymore.
When it’s spreading with less efficacy than the flu due to vaccinations, I tend to refer to that as “it’s only spreading”. Just a semantic preference.
Delta won’t, but it could give rise to another strain that’s even more virulent and vaccine resistant, which could
I mean, possibly, but you could say the exact same thing for literally every other disease known to man, so I think it’s silly to think that way.
Most diseases aren’t caused by a virus with such a penchant for mutation as COVID. It’s been about a year and a half, a year and a third and it’s already given rise to some vaccine resistant variants. It’s not silly to think more could show up, especially since there are poor countries that can’t afford to vax their population at any sort of rapid rate and that could export their new variants before we know they exist. Nobody is safe until everyone is safe in this pandemic
it’s this kind of “just knowledgeable enough to be really fucking wrong and really fucking dangerous” horse shit that got us into this mess in the first place
im sorry to pick on you, im sure you’re a nice person and really smart, but this is a dumb fucking thing to say that will literally get people killed because it’s wrong
yes all pathogens mutate, but that generalization hand waves over a lot of really fucking important biology, like how viruses *especially* and coronaviruses *especially* mutate a fuckton faster than most
this is why we have vaccines for all kinds of horrible bacteria but havent been able to muster a universal flu vaccine, or a vaccine against hiv, because viruses mutate so fucking rapidly i don’t have an analogy to adequately convey
Like, not trying to be rude, again, everyone should get vaxxed.
But reality is that that’s not going to happen because there are dumb people in the world. Coronavirus do mutate faster than other viruses, yes, but given the current circumstances (even though there is a rise cases there has been no corresponding rise in deaths for reasons stated above, olds are vaxxed, hospitals are not over capacity and can treat everyone). Despite the fact that there isn’t a universal flu vaccine or hog vaccine we don’t have everyone act overly cautious around it because the deaths corresponding to them are low. Nobody cares if there’s a lot of flu going around, everyone cares if there’s a ton of flu deaths going around.
My issue with the arguement about “it could mutate and coronavirus’s mutate unbelievably fast” is because it effectively insinuates that because of this fact, and the reality that everyone is t going to vax, that we should constantly operate in a state of Uber high alert for all time, and that’s just not feasible. I understand the reality of viruses and mutations. I’m in med school 😉
I appreciate the convo!
Props to everyone in this thread (so far) for having civilized conversation and being able to point out subtle flaws without being total a-holes. It’s nice to be among people who don’t obnoxiously jump down each other’s throats.
How dare you say this conversation is civilized. You troglodyte.
*jumps down throat*
ABBBU DABBU DAHHHH *band and click noise*
Sadly, it’s because Dave has a pretty obvious stance on the validity of science, and a ban hammer that has been applied many times.
The Bills make me want shout, “get vaccinated.”
*TO shout. Too angry to Cole to type straight.
Shut up David.. who are you nerd? I’m with Cole.. like many many others.
Good luck with that

Lol the vax take away your ability to see an obvious joke? Let me guess? Johnson and Johnson?
After everything you’ve seen online in the last year, especially regarding Covid, you still think that’s an obvious joke when so many people have been revealed to believe exactly this way?
I had comments just like this on the last covid comic and they were genuine too. In 9 years of experience moderating these things, this feels like the average drive by angry comment made by someone who somehow found the site for this specific comic and isn’t a regular reader. Most of my angry comments are like that. New IP addresses that I’ve never seen before, leaving one comment calling me stupid, and they never appear again.
So unless the individual who made it comes back and says otherwise, I doubt it’s fake
LOL You sound like you are super fun at parties.
(This is a joke, I know you struggle to tell the difference)
“who are you nerd”
sick burn, you should be a professional troll
I’ll need evidence this is not actual Cole Beasley committing a salty internet hit-and-run.
And it’s very plainly serious. They called him “David” for Pete’s sake.
lol excellent point about david, cant believe I missed that
Soon we’ll get the Super Delta Covid Saiyans!
Women’s Football Alliance championship game is on Sat 24 at 6pm ET
MN Vixen vs Boston Renegades
Would love to see a comic on that afterwards.
I feel like tomorrow’s comic should just be Deandre Hopkins pallette swapped for beasley and everything else the same
