Still Nothing
Every Friday I get excited that this will be the day the NFL drops the Watson news, late on Friday when nobody is paying attention. That classic Friday news dump strategy whenever they want to inform us of something we won’t like.
Still nothing. Baker’s still there. I don’t know if the Browns haven’t been able to dump him off or if they are trying to keep him on because Watson is likely sitting out next season. Only time will give us our answer, but time suuuuuucks give me my instant gratification so we can have a day this month where we can actually talk about football again
If the Baker or Watson news breaks tomorrow morning after I write this before everyone reads it I’m going to be furious
EDIT: I AM FURIOUS WHY DOES THIS SHIT HAPPEN EVERY TIME
Maybe this is the jinx. Maybe the football gods will finally decide to do something specifically to mess with Dave. If that actually happens, thank you for your sacrifice.
Also lol Handsome Jimmy’s still around, hope he stays and styles on the Packers in the playoffs again.
Look at Nostradamus over here
Heck yeah I called it lol
Watson probably won’t eve be suspended because “he felt bad and won’t do it again pinky promise” and he throws a ball good.
But he said that he was sown š
Calvin Ridley is going to get a longer suspension than Deshaun Watson and that’s sad and pathetic
I was going to say being an anti-Watson Browns fan really is starting to feel this way, but frankly it’s felt this way for two months.
And the 49ers can keep Jimmy G. Why pay $24M for him when you’re already paying Brissett $5M and will get the same production?
If baker opts to have mercy and plays for them, I will lose respect. They treated him like shit, he should do the same.
On the one-hand, I 100% agree with this take.
But on the other hand… if Baker wanted to win some SERIOUS Brownie points (WOCKA WOCKA!)… once Watson is sentenced, he could release a statement saying he doesn’t forgive the Browns organization for what it did to him, but he doesn’t want to leave the fanbase, who always supported him, in the lurch. So he will begrudgingly suit up if a trade doesn’t happen, but only for them and what they’ve meant to his career in Cleveland.
But who am I kidding? He’ll probably just go on a podcast and drop a bunch of swears saying he has a chip on his shoulder, and the Browns disrespected him, and they can go F themselves, and now he’s angry, and he’s going to show the world how dangerous he’s feeling, and the newfound support he’s gotten from people such as myself, who generally never liked him, will vanish. He would not be wrong to go this route, but if he wants to rehab the whiny angry crybaby image he’s had the last few years, he could make good use the newfound sympathy to his advantage, take it on the chin, and show he’s the bigger person now.
The fanbase supported him at the end? It surely didn’t look like it.
LOL, well no. But if he wasn’t traded and wanted a high-road approach to playing for the Browns this season if Watson was suspended, that’s how I would have gone about it. I guess it doesn’t matter now.
If he has that image, it’s entirely undeserved imo. He has done nothing but go out there and be a good soldier even when hurt. He never threw OBJ under the bus to the press. He only responded after the browns were caught wanting an “adult” at qb, which given that franchise’s life choices to date I would sooner believe the browns misevaluated baker than believe he was a crybaby. I wouldn’t blame him if he didn’t bother rehabbing an image he didn’t even cultivate himself. IMO people took the flag planting thing and that has hounded him ever since, unfairly.
I can only speak for myself, so Iām not stating this as objective fact, but itās all the things that bother me about him, so itās totally fair if you donāt agree with how I see things. But for me, itās not so much a singular incident, but more about the entire package. The flag planting thing is just the cherry on top of the s&# Sundae that is Baker Mayfield, to me. Considerā¦
ā Heās argumentative on social media, he and Colin Cowturd (couldnāt resist, lol) spent the better part of what seemed like a year sniping at each other like hens.
ā Heās very combative in interviews.
ā The dig on Daniel Jones. Regardless of accuracy and whether he knew it was on or off the recordā¦ it was a smarmy, arrogant thing to say about someone else in your profession.
ā Saying HE would make the decision whether or not he plays through injury, implying he can override the decision-making power of his coaches and trainers.
ā Dissing his teammates in contract negotiations. I forgot who it was. The running back.
ā Publicly criticizing the trainers for how they handled OBJās injuries.
ā The endless parade of commercials for someone with absolutely nothing on the field to back up their existence.
ā This is just off the top of my head, Iām sure thereās more.
Oh, like his wife making comments and jabbing people on social media. That doesāt help.
The lack of on-field performance really doesnāt help. Itās this constant āchip on the shoulderā attitude that bugs me, really, and a general lack of accountability and leadership when it matters. e.g., when the running game isnāt carrying the offense.
None of which is meant to imply the Browns did right by him, because, oh man, they f-d this up royally. I went from being disgusted by most of what he does to legitimately feeling sympathy for his situation. Weāll see what happens with the Panthers. I expect the same childish antics, but Iāll give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe heāll turn a new page.
This is Politics 101, they’re waiting for a slow news day or other big news to occur to announce that he’s getting suspended for 2 or less games.
I think Baker should go full Jay Cutler if he has to play for the Browns this year.
Already went through this waiting for Trevor Bauer’s punishment, its no fun.
I think they have to keep Baker in order to keep their insurance policies…
Hahahahahaha. You manifested it
Well, it wasn’t the morning, but congrats on jinxing it, Dave!
Aaaand he’s a Panther. For a conditional fifth round pick in 2024. Cleveland is still paying most of his money.
How about that
Baker just got traded to the Panthers. Thankfully, I saw the comic first
LOL Baker to panthers just now, for a 5th rd pick
And it happened.
Mayfield to Carolina for a conditional fifth rounder.
lol
Deshaun Watson’s suspension is not up to the NFL. There’s an independent arbitrator who will decide everything, from the length of the suspension to when it drops, and she has no reason to dump it on a Friday to make it convenient for the NFL. Also Baker is gone, there’s no way he can function in their locker room after they assassinated his character in their pursuit of Watson.
Oh he’d been traded already lmao
Dave you need to play the lottery or something.
It is now a proven fact: The NFL monitors The Draw Play and actively attempts to screw Dave at every turn. This is Ol’ Rog’s version of revenge.
EXTERNAL CRANE SHOT OF NFL HEADQUARTERS, NIGHT, SWOOPING IN, THRU THE WINDOW TO REVEAL A BEDGRAGGLED LOOKING ROGER GOODELL AND SOME NAMELESS FLUNKIES.
GOODELL: refresh the page, refresh the page!
FLUNKY: I just refreshed it sir, nothing has chang (the FLUNKYS fingers hit CTRL-R anyway as he stops midword)
GOODELL, excitedly: There it is! QUICK! publish the news before he realises how we’ve played him!
the FLUNKY hurries to obey, a SPINNING NEWSPAPER SHOT of the baker trade news fades to a STATIC SHOT of the most recent Thedrawplay.com comic
END SCENE
:::Slow clap building into a roaring standing ovation::: Dave needs to draw this.
I came back here the second I heard that Baker was traded. Sorry Dave, but that shit was funny.
I did the same thing xD
Comedy — it’s all in the timing!
LOL
Aaaand he’s gone.
BRING THE HYDRA BACK! THE BROWNS DESERVE THEIR CONTINUED MISERY!
This!! I hope the Browns Hydra is revived with Baker incorporated. Some storyline about Watson accidentally or unwittingly reviving it.
Can your Friday comic be about me not winning the Mega Millions jackpot?
Yeah I second this. Let’s get ol Redshirt a payday
Honestly Dave, the part about you being furious is the best punchline you could have asked for!

Now I’m wondering if it’s the site. I reposted a new comment in the right spot, and a comment under this saying to ignore this, and neither showed up several minutes later. =/
Both of those comments were in my approval cue under “anonymous” so either the site ate your saved credentials or you logged in from a new device and forgot to put them in yourself. It occasionally eats my credentials too, but if you’ve commented before without issue then checking your credentials is the first thing to look out for
The site is set up to save your name and not require approval after the first comment with those saved credentials, so if the site appears to eat the comment then 99% of the time those conditions weren’t met
My internet was being super dumb yesterday, so that explanation makes more sense. The fields were visually filled in on my end, but my internet was going up/down/up/down, so the field data probably got lost in the shuffle.
DAVE! QUICK!!! Do a cartoon about Goodell trying to be the NFL commissioner for decades, or Dan Snyder saying he will never sell the Washington team. USE YOUR POWERS FOR GOOD!
Probably won’t work like that but that would be hilarious if it did . Do it Dave, do your part to rid the league of these evils.
Cleveland Hydra has to return. As Baker leaves, it slowly reforms in the background ….
