Lets Check In On The Cardinals, Just For Funsies
It’s contract negotiation time in Arizona! You know what that means! Petty Drama!
Kyler scrubbed all the Cardinals information from his Instagram! What could this mean? Could he be the next Julio Jones, who did the same and then forced his way out of Atlanta? Or maybe he’s pulling a Giannis Antetokounmpo, who did the exact same thing and then signed a big fat contract to stay on the Bucks. Whichever way you slice it, removing team flavor from your Instagram is probably the most petty, silly thing an athlete can do in negotiations but it keeps happening. Just keep the damn pictures up. Is there really no other way to let the public know you are unhappy with your contract and threaten them? You could, you know, just say it. Enough passive-aggressive notes Kyler everyone can see what you are doing down there.
On the other hand, as is expected during contract negotiations, Kyler is getting criticized by random sources within the organization! Kyler is selfish! Arizona is trying to accommodate him but he’s just being so petty.
It’s all the same crap every time. Remember how Dak was a problem for Dallas before they signed his big fat extension? This will be the same. A lame proxy war online between unnamed sources and social media posturing to try and drive a player’s value up or down on the negotiation table. It usually goes in the player’s favor with an extension, eventually, the question simply ends up being how good a bag did the player get.
Kyler will get his bag. The Cardinals are stuck with him, for better and worse. They’ve been a major late-season disappointment two years straight now (especially last year after going all-in and starting the season so strong). Kyler is clearly good enough to win. The problem seems like Kliff to me. His team is getting figured out and they can’t overcome late-season trials. But Kliff and Kyler are sort of intertwined in their fate so they both need to figure some shit out. The Cardinals are a big question mark this season and the dynamic duo (and Thumb GM Steve Keim) likey have one more chance to solve this problem and win a damn playoff game or I see an explosion incoming.
Come on colts. Trade them wentz’s anchor of a contract and other stuff for Kyler
Cards aren’t stupid enough to fall for that
Pretty much. The Cardinals improvement from “mostly bad” franchise to “pretty decent” franchise is something….Detroit could emulate
Fuck the Colts. Enjoy Wentz
Klyer never had any Cardinals team related stuff on his insta and he cleared everything that was on his insta. It’s the sports media creating drama where there is none.
As for the “sources” they’ve been proven to be dead wrong from teammates and front office staff who’ve said that there is no drama or anyone calling Klyer selfish within the organization.
Again it’s manufactured media drama, gotta get those clicks somehow now that football is over.
You might be right, but it’s worth pointing out, just about *ALL* NFL Team Drama starts out like this. Smoke pours out of the building… the team and the staff circle up those wagons to deny everything. And then months later, the building collapses and a wall of flame engulfs the grounds and all of the staff standing near it. I’m not saying that IS what’s happening, but everything you stated above is just whistling through the graveyard at this point. Gotta wait and see if that smoke is a roaring fire, or just a s’mores and weenie roast.
nice analogy!
“what smoke? that’s the… aurora borealis!”
The aurora borealis?! At this time of year? At this time of day? Localized in your facility!?
HAHAHA, I was totally thinking of Steamed Hams when I put this together, but I didn’t know if I’d lose anyone referencing it, and if there’s one thing that depresses me, it’s having to explain a Simpsons joke.
Kingsbury’s Texas Tech teams always fell apart in the second half of the season too. At this point, we should assume the same will happen with any team he coaches until it doesn’t.
Year: 1st half : 2nd half
Texas Tech (includes bowls)
2013: 7-0 : 1-5
2014: 2-4 : 2-4
2015: 5-2 : 2-4
2016: 3-3 : 2-4
2017: 4-3 : 2-4
2018: 4-2 : 1-5
Arizona Cardinals (includes playoffs)
2019: 3-4-1 : 2-6
2020: 5-3 : 3-5
2021: 8-1 : 3-6
And people wanted to give Coughlin a hard time for second half issues, at least he helped brought two titles to the Giants including in one of the seasons where they went 3-5 in the second half.
What made the Cardinals’ collapse so interesting this year is that they started 8-1 and got to 10-2 despite a plethora of injuries damn-near destroying their roster, including losing Kyler Murray himself. So naturally, one would expect that they would have done pretty well once they started getting healthy later in the year. Nope, after the 10-2 start they finished 1-5 including playoffs.
At that point, I feel like all of the blame has to go to Kliff. There’s just no excuse for it.
Dude should try to flip the script. Use a vanilla gameplan and treat the first 8.5 games like preseason, and then implement the offseason coaching plan starting in the second half of the 8th game. Take EVERYONE by surprise!
