Les Snead Doesn’t Give A Fuck
The Rams got Von Miller!
Von, who was set to be a free agent at the end of the year, was instead dumped before the deadline to the Rams for a couple of second-day picks in 2022. Von has dealt with injuries lately and is definitely on the backend of his years but this is still a major get for a team with an open window. It is yet another incredible asset on a defensive line that already features Aaron Donald, who is singlehandedly better than half the defensive lines in the league. Von will come to a team where he isn’t even the main threat. I know the first thing I felt when I heard that Von had been traded. OH NO THE TEXANS SENT DESHAUN TO DENVER. Oh, nevermind, it was the Rams. Of course it was the Rams. For the past half-decade it has always felt like the Rams.
GM Les Snead isn’t like other girls. He doesn’t like draft picks. To Les Snead, draft picks are monopoly money he can use to con other teams into giving him their expensive veteran stars. It feels antithetical to everything you hear. You have to build through the draft! You have to accumulate picks! Fuck your picks. Give me Von Miller. Les Snead has a different way of going about his business and if you don’t like it well, you’re on Detroit now.
What’s weird is that it’s clearly working. While some of the Rams roster is drafted players, Donald being the important exception, in many ways the Rams resemble LA itself. Most people there aren’t from there. Stafford is from Detroit. Ramsey is from Jacksonville. Von is from Denver. Robert Woods is from Buffalo. Andrew Whitworth is from the stone ages. The Rams and Snead have tried a very different approach to team building than most other teams try. Fuck the draft, swap players in and out. It doesn’t feel like it should work, but it does. They almost won a Super Bowl a couple years ago and have stayed consistently competitive for basically McVay’s entire tenure with this philosophy. They are once again a playoff contender with a stud QB under center for the first time since Warner. The Rams have found a method to keep their window open as long as they can before the inevitable shut.
It’s pretty neat when you see a team tell convention to eat shit and generally get away with it. The Rams offer a good companion piece to the Saints, who operate as if the Salary Cap doesn’t exist. The Bucs, who won it all last year, did mostly under a similar philosophy once they claimed Tom Brady. The Rams have Von Miller now and there’s nothing any of us can do about it.
The weird thing is I don’t see the Rams winning a playoff game because Stafford is cursed and don’t tell me it was all the Lions fault. A top tier QB would have won at least one when he had Calvin Johnson. Not saying Stafford is not talented because he slings the ball with the best of them. He is just cursed.
My first thought when I heard the trade was “The Rams had two 2022 day 2 picks left?”
The only remaining piece from 2015 is McManus… I guess the collapse is officially over. Certainly trading Von and getting some picks is better than jealousy clinging onto him; we get two picks when we would otherwise get none and Von gets a chance at a well-deserved second ring. Still feels real bad, though. That man is the face of the franchise, without him the Broncos truly have no identity. Hopefully we can pick one up soon.
I’m going to assume the Henry Ruggs situation won’t be covered here, because it would be in poor taste to draw a comic about something in which a young woman lost her life in a truly horrific fashion, but it’s astounding that people still risk their lives, as well as the lives of innocent bystanders, by choosing to drive while impaired. RIP to that poor young woman and her little dog.
Yeah I’m probably not touching that
Chris Grier likes draft picks, just he hasn’t got Clue One what to do with them.
Les Snead was a driving force for running the St. Louis Rams into the ground by signing past-their-prime vets. Remember when he went into the season with Shaun Hill and Austin Davis as starting QB’s.
I knew I remembered Austin Davis from somewhere.
The rams used a first-round pick on Jared Goff and were like, not doing that again
Snead is definitely following the rules of a playbook from the 80s
It’s just ‘Reaganomics’
Rodgers has Covid and because he’s unvaccinated, he has to sit out against the Chiefs. So, now we’re screwed out of seeing Mahomes vs Rodgers once more. What’s more, he lied about being “immunized” back in August.
Discount Double Choke better be praying to Jebus that Jordan Love doesn’t have it. According to CBS, their practice squad QB also has it, and Love is the only QB left on the roster. If the game can’t be played on schedule, they could be looking at a forfeit and no game checks, all thanks to Shorty McAngryPants.
Yeah, Benkert has Covid, too. Jordan Love apparently tested negative since he’s currently practicing. They’ll have to bring in a street QB as a backup, or use Cobb, who played QB in HS and a little in college.
Randall Cobb playing QB would be glorious
I said it when the rule was made and I’ll say it again. I’ll believe the NFL will cancel a game when I see it
Latest I’ve seen, Rodgers had his “personal doctor” give him homeopathic “treatment” to “raise his antibody levels.” As a Packers fan I’m less upset about Rodgers missing time than the fact our QB is somehow even more embarrassing than Kirk Cousins.
That, too. He’s a liar and believes in homeopathic crap.
This makes my brain hurt. That’s not how antibodies or immunization actually works.
OBJ excused from practice today because his dad made a highlight video of all the times Baker missed him.
Come home, Odell, it’ll be entertaining at least
‘member when OBJ came over to the Browns and I was all excited?
I even made your “Scream” painting my screensaver for a while.
Good times…
Microwave rosters aren’t sustainable in the NFL the way they are in the NBA, because of the salary cap. You can do it with a solid core that you put cheap veterans chasing rings around, but what Les Snead is doing isn’t cheap and will result in a bare cupboard within three years. This team will end up being a lot more Marlins than Lakers.
The thing is, people were saying this 3 years ago
and he’s still doing it, and it’s still working
I don’t remember anyone saying this three years ago. Three years ago most of their key contributors were draftees or cheap free agents, including Robert Woods who’s making less than $8M per year. Their only really big acquisitions that year were Suh, Cooks, and Peters, and they didn’t spend anywhere near the amount of money or draft capital to obtain them that they have on Ramsey, Stafford, Michel, and Miller.
By 2024 they will have gone 7 years without a first round pick and have four guys on the wrong side of 30 taking up 40% of their salary cap with no QB.
Or not lol
But hey, if they get even one ring, it’s worth it right?
Broncos: I REGERT NOTHING!
Referring to how they went out for one title under Peyton and Miller.
All the craziness that is going on and this is the comic we get. The Miller thing was a big surprise when it happened, but now its like the 5 biggest thing in the NFL right now. Thats truly wild.
The Rodgers news literally broke this morning man these things take time
Why is everyone dunking on Dave the past few days? He makes these comics for free everyone. He can do what he wants, on his own schedule.
Lol why you guys playing victim? I was just making an observation how Miller trade was the craziest thing happening to being almost forgotten in like 12hours.
The 3rd article sounds like something Colin Cowherd would say
The Rams are on some George Allen shit.
Hey Dave, just wondering if you want to stay with the Packers over the Chiefs now that we know Aaron Rodgers isn’t going to play.
Well, the strategy worked. Time for the copycats to arrive
