Robert Quinn Gets A Terrible Suspension
Can we talk about how messed up this is?
Robert Quinn, Cowboys DE, just got suspended for 2 games after using a banned substance. Okay, fine. Happens frequently enough. But then today I saw more details to the story and good lord the NFL is such a joke.
So Robert Quinn has a brain tumor (jesus christ). He’s apparently had this brain tumor just kinda chilling on his brain since high school (jesus-er christ) and he just got it checked on from time to time to make sure it wasn’t, you know, getting to be a worse brain tumor (jesus-est christ). I just wanted to shout out Robert Quinn for living with a brain tumor all these years like it’s just his friend or something. That’s crazy.
Anyway he takes medicine for his brain tumor (I still can’t like…deal with this) that works to prevent seizures. Apparently, (according to his agent) in the process of filling his ANTI BRAIN TUMOR SEIZURE meds, the pharmacy must have had some residual powder from another medicine sneak into his meds, and the powder contained some trace steroid masking agent chemical. Like, trace. The statement from his agent gives the details you need to understand how rare and suspiciously tiny this amount was.
Not only did this worthless amount of steroid masking agent apparently warrant a 2 game suspension, the NFL apparently admitted that they didn’t suspect Quinn of doping during the hearing…and suspended him anyway. What the absolute fuck. Is the NFL so damn tone deaf that this is worth doing? Is the NFL so blatantly terrified of going case by case after they happened to mess everything up during the Ray Rice/Deflategate scandals? They got put on mega blast for being lenient on Rice, then coming up with a strict 6-game suspension policy, which they then proceeded to ignore for other cases, and took more flack for that. Is this nonsense a response to that? To stick to policy no matter what the circumstances? Part of thinks this is the NFL essentially following policy to make sure they get the PR for it, and they will happily remove the suspension when Quinn inevitably appeals. If they don’t remove the suspension on appeal, for this, the NFL might just straight up be the dumbest organization in sports.
Obviously this is all based on the agent’s statement, which has plenty of bias. We don’t really know the NFL’s side of the argument. But the way the NFL has messed up in the past decade makes it easy to believe it’s legit.
Next time you want to take brain pills Quinn, just hit a woman instead. You’ll be fine that way.
All I can hear from the NFL is Land of Confusion by Genesis: this is the world we live in.
Not just Goodellzebub either. Stephen Ross holds a fundraiser for Dorito Mussolini, stating he doesn’t support his raging bigotry, but mmmm, them yummy yummy tax cuts. Sorry fucklechops, but that ain’t how it works. Y’all do this bullshit, y’all supporting the whole package, fascism, bigotry, sexual predation, arresting migrant workers so there’s nobody for their kids to go home to from school, white police on horseback leading a black guy by a rope through the street, turning victims of two mass shootings into a chance to brag about crowd numbers, three-pointering paper towels to Puerto Rican hurricane victims and all. Nah, I’m with Kenny Stills on this one.
Dave tagged this comic with Evil, but we’re seeing the term get redefined on a daily basis right now.
listen, I’m not a big fan of Trump, but At least I’m able to desperate policy from rhetoric. Plus thanks for calling my entire family racists, sexist, etc. fuck off with that shit, I know they aren’t because of how they act, but fuck them for caring about their financial situation right?
separate. not desperate. fucking hate my phone
to a pretty large degree, rhetoric IS policy. especially now. “separating” them is to ignore a huge facet of political life. maybe maybe your entire family aint racist-in-their-hearts, but they are at the very least apparently supporters of a racist and sexist who’s pushing a racist and sexist agenda, becaaaause money? that’s… not a compelling defense. thomas jefferson disdained slavery, but not enough to take a financial hit. you know they aint racist cuzza how they act, but voting is an act, and a vote for a racist is a racist act. or at the very least racist-adjacent. early on, fine, i can get over someone who voted for trump (hillary is scum), but to support him now requires either burying your head in the sand or some kind of weird pride in his hateful rhetoric. you publicly align with Trump, you deserve criticism. you have a charity that’s supposed to promote harmony, and throw a fundraiser for a hateful, knowingly divisive racist chucklefuck, you deserve to eat shit. you can’t have your cake and eat it too.
You can measure the character of a politician and/or their party by how they treat the most vulnerable in society.
Newsflash: you don’t have the monopoly on sociopaths in government. Case in point. An unemployed woman here in the UK was sanctioned to the tune of just under £2,400 – close to $2,900 – for missing an appointment at her local Department of Work & Pensions offices, the Orwellian name now used for Job Centres. This left her just £24 a week to live on. Not even thirty bucks to most people here. The reason she missed the appointment?
She’d suffered a miscarriage. And the DWP fucking KNEW about it as well.
The mango-hued maniac squatting in the Oval Office revels in the shite he’s pulling against people who happen to be from otherwhere and darker-than-thou. He fucking DELIGHTS in it. And you know it. You side with him, you don’t get to cherrypick.
Any time you bring up this political party does this or that political party does that you have already identified the problem. Trump is a moron. But he’s our moron right now, like it or not (I can’t say I’m pleased). Our issue is that we have allowed ourselves as a people to become so easily divided by such ignorant issues. The real issues aren’t being addressed. We gloss over them while we name call and point fingers and blame who we think is at fault. I mean, how the hell are we even are this subject? This is supposed to be a (mostly) light hearted comic that we can enjoy TOGETHER.
Also, I’m pretty sure the Evil Dave tagged in this comic was more meant for the Cowboys.
I get where you are coming from. At the same time the other problem is that most of my family (myself included to a point) disagree with the Democrats too much to vote for them. I typically vote 3rd party because fuck both parties. But if I had to vote for 1 of the 2 parties About 9 times out of 10 I’d vote GOP, not necessarily because I agree with them, but because I disagree with them less than the Dems, even before the rise of the Progressive Wing became prominent. But that’s just my personal take. 2020 is going to suck almost as bad as 16 for me.
I get where you’re coming from. I hate what both parties have become. Our country use to have more integrity on BOTH sides. But now it’s picking the lesser of two evils really. And that makes me really sad. Talking about 2020…….you’re name says it all about how I feel really lol
Tell me about it, we’re pretty much picking which poison to commit suicide with.
hardcore “both sides”ing does not make you sound like the moderate gentleman you think it does
it makes you sound like a fucking moron who’s either willing to tolerate said divisive racist chucklefuck for tax breaks, or a legit nationalist for whom the administration’s cruelty is the point
So you’re with a guy who plays for a mediocre team with crappy ownership who seems to be good protesting as long as it brings awareness to……him? The problems are easy enough to see without any NFL player “protesting”. But in this day and age, the new American way is to point fingers and say “It’s their fault”, not man up and ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING TO FIX THINGS.
Kenny Stills is active in charity though. You can criticise the man for anything EXCEPT for just talking without doing stuff to back it up.
I think the real problem in all of this is really media representation. Why show someone’s good side when the bad side creates controversy and drives up ratings?
what’s it like being this deranged?
Whirlwound, the answer is, as always somewhere in the middle. Diversify your news sources, and open your mind to seeing, and legitimately understanding the other side of the argument. Then you will see ways to fix things by working with others and giving them 49% of what they want in order to get 51% of what you want. Hate and anger is no way to respond to anything – even hate and anger.
Compromising with racists is just racism though. There’s no moderate position to “I’m superior based on my skin tone.”
Just Vote, Baby. #MAGA
“Is the NFL so damn tone deaf” yes, I believe they are; the evidence has been piling up for years and shows no sign of stopping
Two things…..1) dude has a brain tumor and is still playing a contact sport that has proven to do some pretty significant damage to your head….that seems not smart. I mean, kudos to him for playing and soldiering on. I’m actually really impressed. It’s kind of a good story. UNTIL the NFL messed it up. Which leads me to 2) just how dumb do you have to be to work at the top of the NFL and get paid big money? I can be pretty stupid. Is this an election year? I might run. Couldn’t do any worse than Good Ole Rog’.
If I were ever to become commissioner, one of my first actions would be to hire a couple of attorneys to create and oversee a system of appropriate punishments for player misconduct to establish some semblance of consistency. Because right now… ugh.
If the NFL does have a legitimate reson for suspending him, it’s probably a WADA compliance reason. That should get overturned on appeal if that’s the case though.
Channeling the inner UT.
And, of course, Tyreek Hill doesn’t get suspended…
