Adam Schefter Goes For The Cardinals Scoop
You can’t trust anything this time of year in regards to the draft. You can’t even trust your own GM to not trade your best player. It’s all just SMOKESCREENS. I wonder how much people like Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport hate being played. I wonder if they know they are being played most of the time.
Are the Cardinals going to trade Josh Rosen? What are they looking for in return? Who are they trying to get? Who are they talking to? Are they doing it to draft Kyler Murray? Are they just doing it to throw everyone off the scent of them picking Bosa? Are they trying to scam a team that might be looking into moving up to give up far too much? Are the Cardinals even actually interested in Kyler Murray? Are the Giants going to trade up? Or are the Giants trying to fool people into thinking they won’t take a QB? Do they want Haskins, or is all the talk of keeping Eli around for 2020 true? Do they even like Haskins? Are the Broncos looking to take a QB? What do the Jets plan on doing? WHO EVEN KNOWS.
This time of year sucks. The draft analysts are starting to make the contrarian hot take mocks already. Free agency is mostly over outside a few lingering deals left to be made. There is still a month of time to over-analyze things. One big scooper will contradict another. I used to think I could navigate the treacherous waters of this mess and come out largely intact but then David “We didn’t sign Odell to trade him” Gettleman broke my heart and now I am a weeping mess. At this point I DO think Rosen is getting traded. I look in the Cardinals subreddit and see Cardinals fans everywhere and they are convinced it is not happening. They still trust their GM. I don’t even know why, really. What has Keim done of much value over the past few years? Sign Sam Bradford to play 3 games? Hire a coach that he then fired pretty much instantly? If I was a Cards fan I would have little faith in Keim at this point, Rosen trade or no. He’s been pretty bleh in the draft, since 2013 his most notable hits were Honey Badger and David Johnson. I recognized a few other names, but I can’t think of anything too high value outside those two, one of which is gone now.
I look at their steadfast denial and GM faith and all I think is “that was me a month ago with Odell”. I was on that side of the grass, where things were greener and you somehow convinced yourself you aren’t a fan of a shit franchise. Now I feel like I’m in the post apocalypse landscape laughing at their naivety because I know that positivity is for losers.
Of course, because I now expect it to happen, it won’t. But because it won’t happen because I expect it to, it will. But because it will happen because I think it won’t happen because I thought it would happen but then they draft Haskins or some shit and I’m going to tear my hair out DAVID GETTLEMAN YOU BROKE ME.
Just watch the NCAA and root against Duke, as we all should, forever.
I’m not really paying much attention to football news because, as you said, Dave, everything’s a smokescreen nowadays. If anything gets actually confirmed the football forum I mooch around will get to it, no need to expend the effort flicking over sports networks and searching news sites and social media posts myself just to dig them out.
Honestly, regarding Rosen the only rumor I heard was that the Giants traded both their 1st round picks to Arizona for him, and that was debunked so quickly that the guy who posted that news on my regular football forum was labeled an idiot just as quickly. Though as ridiculous the notion seemed, I’ll admit the first thing I thought of was you, Dave, because somehow that’s not beyond the realm of believability these days.

That comic sure does look different now, what with the bombshell dropped that was the Odell trade. Just out of curiosity, Dave, if Gettleman really traded two 1sts for Rosen, what would’ve been your reaction? A replay of your reaction with Odell getting traded, maybe?
“KEIM WINS
SMOKESCREEN”
If there was going to be a video game reference with smokescreens, my first thought was it would be Pokemon since there’s actually a Smokescreen move which reduces accuracy, but I guess your Mortal Kombat reference works better since nobody uses Smokescreen in Pokemon, frankly. Heh.
I can’t picture anybody giving up two first round picks for Rosen at this point. He has as much a chance of panning out as most of the top QBs in this years draft. That said, I also can’t fathom drafting a QB #1 overall if I had drafted one in the first the year prior. Unless, I already knew he was a bust. That makes me think that Rosen may not be worth a 2nd round pick and will ultimately lose a ton of value if they don’t trade him before drafting Kyler Murray(if they do). Of course, that means that the the Patriots will get him for 3rd rounder or something stupid like that and it will pan out for them for some stupid reason. Then the rest of us will wallow in pity as the that dynasty refuses to die.
Who is Pokemon? Did you say the Cards are going to draft this newcomer at #1? Where is Schef? HE NEEDS THIS SCOOOOOOOOOP!!!
That by the way, has been this entire draft process in a nutshell. “CARDS DON’T DENY INTEREST” could just be another way to drum up interest in a trade. Murray (who I still don’t think is a top QB) comes off the board early and it sends QB needy teams into a panic. Just the threat will likely do it.
And then there are the Raiders. I can practically see Carr clutching his belongings at his locker now, crying, saying “He said I wasn’t leaving.” We ALL know what that means. In fact, I’d love to see this as a comic, IF he actually leaves (as in gets jettisoned into deep space by False Overlord Gruden).
Two firsts for Rosen is way too much. I know you can’t judge a single season of football in a garbage situation and I liked Rosen coming out, but I don’t think 2 firsts after his recent season is a fair trade. If the Giants traded the first round pick we got from the Browns (#17 I think) for Rosen, I could get behind that.
If that two firsts trade actually happened I would have just laughed
Gettleman broke me and now I’m just sitting back and watching it burn with zero hope
why would anyone voluntarily and nonironically root for duke
*sigh* Go Zags?
I picked them to win. I’m not rooting for them to win, I’m rooting for their opponent to lose.
legit
I used to look at it all and think it was bullshit. They would say things like your owner wants to fire the guy that finally brought your team to the Superbowl and replace him with a line coach that looks like a box of french fries neighbor( or early eighties porn star. you choose) when things seemed like they were going good. AND THEN IT FUCKING HAPPENS! Its like my parents getting a divorce when I was a kid, sure he was an alcoholic and my mom seemed depressed but I never say it coming. Well heres to hoping I don’t become an alcoholic like my father. But being a Niner fan and a SF Giants fan I think the writings on the wall. Non football side note; Please get some fucking hits Giants PLEASE.
I’m hearing reports that the Giants may not go QB at the #6 pick. If this is true and Gettleman commits to Ei beyond 2019, I’m done with this organization for good. I understand passing on a QB last year for Saquon but if they have a chance at Haskins with the 6th pick there’s no reason whatsoever to pass on him, which gives me even more of a reason to think Gettleman will draft an O-Lineman and pick like Daniel Jones in the 3rd round.
Plus I rather they draft a QB than making a trade for Rosen.
I enjoyed the high concept for the Cardinals facility.
Everything is red – check

Hey, upcoming a piece of unpopular news here, but I’m not sure that you have heard that there were discussions between Peyton Manning and Trevor Siemian, But it’s in articles and news about them, Peyton seems like was convincing Trevor to go to the New York Jets, and it seems to work well for him, so Trevor was thinking to either go back to the Vikings or go see the Jets and sign there, so he got help from Peyton and Peyton told him to go to the Jets since he may have known Adam Gase for a while before Trevor went to the Denver Broncos. Either way now, Trevor is now in the Jets thanks to Peyton convincing for him to go to New York Jets and Adam Gase. So here’s this kind of big and kind of unpopular topic here.
I feel a little of your frustrations with GMs after Pace traded away Jordan Howard to the Eagles for a 2020 sixth round pick. SIXTH ROUND. I thought Bears were in WIN NOW mode, but apparently we’re already banking for the future? Trade one of the best RBs over the past 4 years, hitting his prime, for a sixth round pick in next year’s draft. AND you trade him to a good NFC team. Thanks Ryan Pace for giving away assets.
At least you get to look forward to the draft. Bears don’t pick until round 3. =/
Congratulations on accepting your negative past, present and future! You have been accepted into the NY Jets fanbase! Giants/Jets fans should just combine at this point to become the “Jersey, Sure” fans: “Sure, something good will happen to a football team in Jersey someday. Suuuure.”
Giants actually has a better shot of recovering than the Jets, they always do. As for the Jets, there’s always SB 3 and that certain regular season win in 2000 they made a huge deal out of.
Also there’s the asinine mock drafts *shudder*
I just realized Steve Keim is drinking ‘Arizona’ Iced Tea in the first panel, love the attention to detail!!
You should considering doing a blast from the past comics one day, especially since people need to know the origins of Darth Hoodie aka Belichick. Do you think his rise began in SB 25?
