The Browns And The Steelers In 2018
How the turn tables.
The Steelers missed the playoffs and the Browns are the reason why. What a time to be alive. The Browns held the fate of both the Ravens and the Steelers in their hands going into week 17. The Browns tried their best to win but came up short, instantly eliminating the Steelers.
I think Browns fans generally were more interested in winning and screwing over the Ravens but screwing over the Steelers has to be a nice consolation prize for what was ultimately a positive season overall. It started bad, got worse, then they removed the tumor that was Hue Jackson and suddenly the Browns we thought could possibly exist actually came out. They still have some ways to go before they are generally a threat to really compete, but they showed competitive life and finally appear to have a future. I think if Baker stays healthy and plays all next year looking like this, maybe I’ll officially end the hydra and make one for the Skins next.
I just assume they are going to mess up the head coaching search and everything goes back to hell because this is the Browns. They don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt until proven wrong. Not kind of proven wrong. Genuinely proven wrong. If they look like this next year and win another game or two, then they have proven it. At least to me, and my opinion is all that matters.
EDIT: On my way home Monday our taxi got in a car accident and I’m all bruised up. Didn’t have time to finish. 2018 sent me into 2019 in irritating amounts of pain. I’ll have my usual yearly bandwagon guide up on Friday and today’s comic will show up when I can finish it
Technically it didn’t *immediately* eliminate the Steelers, if the Mariota-less Titans could not win but *tie* against the Colts, the Steelers would have been the wildcard.
For all intents and purposes though, that final strand of impossible hope might as well have been the Browns cruel mercy keeping the Steelers from resting.
Looks like the Browns will land Mike McCarthy
So for “Give the Ball to Rodgers and hope he does something amazing” playcalling, read “Give the Ball to Mayfield and hope he does something amazing”.
Mediocrity for the next few years is about to happen. The Browns will become the Cowboys. 8-8 every year, and amazing generational talents lost to The Franchise of Sadness.
8-8 every year for the Browns…? They may celebrate that for the first season or two. Even more so when Coach Hue comes to town to remind everyone that he made the Browns what they are.
Hot take right here, but I think Gregg Williams has done a good enough job to stay as permanent head coach. That being said, I look forward to seeing an improved Browns team, mediocre or not.
Also, looks like Rex Ryan wants to become the Dolphins head coach lol
Actually, I take the mediocrity part back. It has been torturous for us Bills fans, though I’m not sure if consistent mediocrity is worse than consistent bottom feeding
I can see him getting some Coach of the Year votes.
Rex Ryan coaching the Dolphins…..if that happens, in 3 years when he gets fired, I hope the Patriots pick him up as coach in waiting. Then BB can make him kiss his rings at the press conference and Ryan can finish up his AFC East tour.
No they won’t. McCarthy and McDaniels are the two least likely to get the job. Every time someone has reported a leaked story from the Browns’ front office since Dorsey took over it’s been a lie.
I was at the Ravens/Browns game last night. Talking with a Browns fan nearby – he was happy with the positives for his team, but he didn’t care about the Ravens winning. It was all about the Steelers not making the Playoffs for him.
That’s something apparently The Old Browns (Ravens) and New Browns fans can always agree on – Eff the Steelers.
The fact that Freddie Kitchens hasn’t been named as an interview candidate by anyone except the Browns leads me to believe that he’s probably the favorite to win the head coaching job in Cleveland. If that’s the only way to keep him around, I’m all for it.
Kill the head and the body will die!
The Browns should appease Mayfield and go after Lincoln Riley
They’d just blame the refs for it and call it a day
Kill me
GO CHARGERS
You should do a drawing of Baker Mayfield as the Brownie
I second this. Staring intensely at Hue Jackson.
Urinating Tree’s going to have a field day over this. Also thanks to Captain Fat fuck stealing the passing yards title, Mahomes is spared of the jinx for now, but the Chiefs’ bad defense will screw them over instead. Just hope they knock off the Pats before deciding to go full Reid.
The Steelers have imploded and I love it. AB threw a fit at practice and lashed out at his own teammates and got benched for an important game. Could you imagine the field day that all the sports networks would have if Odell did that? Blowhards like Francesa would bring it up 10 years from now. This AB situation, the Le’Veon debacle and Ben ripping his teammates weekly is going to lead to the Steelers missing the playoffs again next year. But people will still pick them to win the Super Bowl, for some reason.
Yeah seriously, the media already have a hate boner toward Odell for some time, just imagine…
All the talents the Steelers have and they still missed the playoffs.
Dave, did you see some of the Coaching and GM moves?!
Mayock is now the Raiders’ GM. So many firings! So much intrigue.
I was rooting for the Browns even though it’d help the Stillers because:
1) a shot at a >.500 season
2) F the Ravens
I *did* get the opportunity to send a Steelers-fan friend a “Welcome to Browns Fandom” text…..
Is there a Browns fan hierarchy of hatred?
You have the Steelers who are historically their rivals, the Ravens who stole their team, and the Bengals who are the result of Paul Brown’s hatred for his former team that’s named after him?
Quite a harem.
All three of their divisional rivalries are in some way related to Art Modell. Art Rooney convincing him to move into the AFC was what got Carroll Rosenbloom to agree to the same, which allowed the merger to go through and put the Browns and Steelers in the same division. He (rightfully) fired Paul Brown in 1962, which led to Brown bidding on the new Cincinnati franchise in 1968. And of course there’s the Ravens.
Since the Browns are looking like legitimate contenders next year, I fully expect them to pick a ruinously bad head coach. McCarthy or McDaniels are possible candidates.
I wish you a speedy recovery Dave.
Response to update:
Jeez, hope you and your wife are okay Dave. Take your time with the comics and rest up if needed
Sorry to hear about that accident; hope you and your family are doing well
Hope you have a speedy recovery, but as others have said, take your time and rest up.
Apropos of nothing, whatever happened to Kurt Warner’s Arena League Ring or whatever the guy with the arena league updates was called?
The Steelers are super disappointing
