Who Wants To Lose The AFC East?
This season is all about the Bills baby. Adding to that team comic total. Padding my Bills comic stats. All of it in garbage time. The AFC East is very strongly represented in this site’s lore, with probably only the Dolphins getting ignored. They’ll get a comic later this week too.
I’ve actually left the Jets mostly alone this year, despite the fact that they might be worse. But that’s the thing. I don’t know who is worse. The AFCE every year is always The Patriots, followed by one mediocre team making an effort (usually the Dolphins but occasionally the other two), then a couple of buggers fighting to look even remotely competent. This year is no exception. The Bills are a meme team with something silly happening every week. The Jets are a limp dumpster, a rookie QB playing under a lame duck head coach. The Dolphins are the Dolphins, which is decidedly mediocre as we wait yet another season for Ryan Tannehill to finally break out. Spoiler: he never will. With the Patriots always blazing to victory each year, the only way to be interesting in the AFCE is to be the worst.
The Bills, despite a stellar defense and a rookie QB who surprisingly isn’t the worst, keep looking like garbo and then randomly spanking some hapless sucker. The Jets, who started the season like dynamic monsters quickly fell off a cliff as Sam Darnold started to look like the “bad INT” college player we saw last season versus the “Look at that upside” Darnold the Jets drafted. Josh Allen likes to run a lot and certainly isn’t as bad as I expected (especially since he has zero weapons) but he hasn’t seemed worthy of praise yet. It’s too early to call for either QB right now. Allen needs legitimate weapons to work with and Darnold needs a coaching staff overhaul since Bowles has to be gone after this. Darnold and Allen have both missed time due to injury. Watching these two duke it out for AFCE supremacy the next decade should be interesting, provided the Pats finally go away and either QB actually turns into a worthwhile player.
Both the Jets and Bills are 4-9. They split with each other. The Jets are technically still in last on the thinnest of tiebreakers. The Bills have to play the Lions, Pats, and Dolphins left. The Jets have to play the Pats, Texans, and Packers.
Okay yeah the Jets are gonna end up 4-12, this is their trophy to lose.
I feel like if Allen was black, people would be calling for his head because he has poor passing numbers and fairly strong running numbers.
Nah, he would be on about 100 Instagram clips tho. Lol nobody’s really calling for Lamar Jackson’s head
Meh, last week at Miami, if Clay catches that last pass, he’s at 300 yards and 3 touchdowns. He just needs weapons so badly.
True. “He only puts up those numbers because he can’t read a defense” or “He’s an athlete, but he’s not a quarterback”
I’ve seen plenty of people say that about him anyway. I think he looks a lot like Deshone Kizer, but with a coach who’s willing to scheme to his strengths.
Wait you mean like that other QB they had except with more ints? What was his name Tryrod Tyler? To be fair at least Allen isn’t afraid to throw when his man has 2 steps on the coverage.
Actually he would have been defended because he can still run and citing his potential or something like they did for Vick until…
It would be both. The critics would be trashing him because he isn’t making decisions and is just relying on athleticism. The fans would be defending his abilities and saying he’ll learn. Basically everything everyone is currently saying, but amplified. Especially if he had a more forceful personality.
But because he’s white he’s being given more leeway to actually develop first, plus the Bills are bad but not ATROCIOUS enough to get any press this late in the season when they’ve been rendered irrelevant.
looking at their schedules i say they tie and go 5-11
Josh Allen! Another time he is a rushing leader
First!
Counting the offseason (and Matt Barkley), looks like that brings the Bills total up to 9 this season
Dang this comment didn’t age well. Some reason didn’t see the other comments til later
MATT BARKLEY!
I can’t wait to see the newest “patriots can’t win in miami” comic
Or Steelers can’t beat a bad team on the road
If it’s not a Buff Dolphins Guy strip (Dave owes him that after he upset the poor bugger with the Frauds Checkdown), I want to see Kenyan Drake getting some Bland Joe Philbin’s Oatmeal Squares for Rodgers after dancing round the Christmas crowds in the grocers.
I had to do a double take yesterday when I saw the Dolphins were 7-6. They’re quietly having a not terrible season.
Especially after suffering through Brock Osweiler starting some games for us
Limp Dumpster is my punk band side-project
This was such a glorious week of football debauchery. There were so many moments that Sanchez being garbage doesn’t even crack the top 5 (probably) and everyone has forgotten that Hue Jackson is quietly sinking the Bengals….
Can’t wait for the Giants to somehow sneak into the playoffs at 8-8 and beat Brady yet again in the Super Bowl as Manning’s dump-off pass with 2 seconds left is taken 90 yards for the score by Barkley. Still can’t believe people thought we should’ve taken Darnold or Allen over him. Kid’s already a top 2 RB in the NFL and hopefully will be for years to come.
Your name and this comment would suggest that would be Eli’s version of channeling Ol’ Sexy Rexy and goin deep. Also, if that happens, how the hell….did you steal an almanac from Marty McFly?
Barkely’s not a top 2 RB.
Dude’s been good but we all know the decision to take a RB vs a QB in the top 5 will always be stupid.
Imagine.
I could easily see the Jets beating GB, the Pack is atrocious this year
I could also see them hiring Mike McCarthy as a “consultant” because he is a Quarterback Whisperer, and then the Jets proceed to lose. The Browns just played this script out. The best thing to come out of the scenario would be Hue Jackson complaining that Mike McCarthy couldn’t come up with an original plan and had to follow his successful career path (almost exact words I’m sure).
Josh Allen: The White Michael Vick
No for real thought the only qb’s in this last draft class who are remotely good is Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson. (Baker Mayfield is ok, he needs to step up) Josh Allen is like a young mobile Tom Brady, (he actually reminds me of Drew Bledsoe, who brady preceded.) Lamar Jackson reminds me of RG3 so much, he just needs to not get hurt.
Baker Mayfield looks alot like Tim Couch. We all know how that turned out. Josh Rosen has flashes of potential, but he mostly sucks. Sam Darnold has no supporting cast what so ever, and frankly, he’s a whinebag. Mason Rudolph was the only guy entering the draft I really liked, and welp we’ll never get to see him play.
It is way too early to judge any of the QBs as good or bad. Almost every one is stuck in a bad situation outside Lamar Jackson and needs more time to prove otherwise. Josh Allen needs weapons and to prove he can make decisions outside running with it. Sam Darnold also needs weapons and protection and a coaching staff that isn’t dead men walking. Josh Rosen is in hell. Baker has looked very different since Hue and Haley got canned.
Jared Goff is the ultimate example of why judging QBs after one season is stupid as hell. The right situation changes everything. Hell even Lamar could end up garbage once teams have more film on him.
Amen. Also, Jared Goff against that Bears defense was like watching a baby bird fall off a cliff. I wish all these qb’s the best, except maybe for Sam Darnold, (C’mon man sympathise your’e a Giants fan), and It’ll be fun to see their play in the future.
I was one of the Bills fans who initially hated the Josh Allen pick. I mean, loathed it. And I’ll be honest: he is still very much a raw product, and I doubt he will completely turn the corner next year. But he *definitely* has talent, and needs to work out the rookie lumps
His passing numbers aren’t great, but he has been hampered by some truly poor receiver and O-line play. I remember is the Jacksonville game that he made two straight passes for 1st down, only to have them all wiped out by O-line penalties. And their top receiver going in, was Kelvin Benjamin…the man who just got cut because he simply gave up and didn’t try.
TBH, I hated it too, as I wanted the Bills to get Mayfield or Jackson. But the more I’ve watched Josh Allen play, I think he’s won me over despite him still trying to figure it out this year. Not only does he have that massive arm and physical tools, but he’s also got the same competitive mentality Baker has. Most importantly, he’s humble, learns quickly, and is a natural leader, which is what you want out of your franchise quarterback. I’m excited to see what the Bills can do with him next year, given they provide better offensive players around him. Stats only tell half the story
Also, looks good in shorts
How can there NOT be a Draw Play comic about a secret heist to steal Ryan Tannehill’s priceless stem cells that he keeps in a Cayman Islands vault?
