The Legion of Boom is Now The Legion Of Gloom
It’s weird to think about it since their rise seemed so fast, but the Legion of Boom may as well be dead now. The core original crew that took them to the bowl and won are gone outside Earl Thomas. Brandon Browner left immediately and won another ring against them the following year. Richard Sherman got released and is now on their most hated rival, at least the Legion era’s most hated rival. Biggest rival now is probably the Rams. Kam Chancellor finally decided to hang them up too. That hard hitting style finally came back to bite him.
So now Earl Thomas is just there. Alone. He has a bunch of new cats around him but the guy has already briefly flirted with retirement and given off rumors that he might want out of Seattle too. The Seahawks dominance era has ended. The team we saw rise to the top is gone. All that is left are a bunch of old dudes, Pete Carroll, Russ, and ET. It’s honestly kind of sad, but every era has to end. The Hawks fans should consider themselves lucky, because the window has probably closed for the time being. They did what you more or less have to do in this league to get a championship. You draft very well for a few seasons so you have a ton of studs on cheap contracts, load up with solid depth mid-range talent, get a good coach and have a franchise QB. That’s a recipe for success and the only way to really capitalize on that window, unless you’re the Patriots.
The Eagles followed that formula. The Broncos a few years ago felt similar, especially on D. You gotta get everything right for that 3-4 year window to have that chance. The Hawks did it and they should be proud. Now that they’re slipping back into the depths known as mediocrity we shall see the bandwagoners slow down and the real fans they made during this era now understand it won’t always be so easy. Have fun with what I like to call “post-success slide”, which is when you have to pay everyone who was on that team, lose all your depth, and then struggle until you hit some good draft picks again or everything blows up. Russ will continue to be good and his last best years will likely be wasted, thankfully he already got his so it won’t be a total bummer.
It was good while it lasted, Seattle. Treasure those dudes forever.
also I’m just gonna say it Legion of Boom is a garbage nickname. All I can think of is that stupid POD song whenever I hear it.

Being Earl Thomas is suffering. At least he has a ring.
Hey Dave, how do you like me now?
The LOB was made by some pretty good players, especially Earl Thomas and Sherman, but in my opinion, what was most fascinating was the scheme and how it completely changed the league.
I remember in 2013 against Brees and Manning how dominant the defense was. Both QBs were having uber efficient years, and no one had figured out how to stop their styles of offense. The LOB shut them down hard, and those styles of offense haven’t been as effective sense.
I know a ton has been made of TB12 and how good he was againts the Seahawks in the Superbowl, but the fact that Bellichek recognized the direction the league defenses were going (press man defense), and put together an offense that specifically counters it (a bunch of man-to-man beaters) is way more amazing in my opinion.
we are we are the legion of boom of the nation
I really liked the name Legion of Boom. It was unique, and had a certain corniness to it that made it endearing. There are too few team nicknames these days, so cherish the few that you get.
It was not unique. They couldn’t be the Legion of Doom because that nickname was already taken by The Philadelphia Flyers line of Eric Lindros – John LeClair – Mikael Renberg. The ‘hawks secondary didn’t have enough imagination to come up with something new and different, so they took an already existing cool nickname and made it more homey.
The nickname of the Legion of Boom has always pissed me off because it’s a blatant, and moreover, flagrant, rip-off of the of the coolest nicknames from one of the best names in Hockey. A nickname which is now forgotten to most because of this far inferior sequel.
Dave, Thank you for finally giving me the opportunity to complain about this topic that has irritated me to no end for the past 6 years.
Lemme guess, you’re from Philly? Because I’d bet dollars to donuts the Legion of Doom the Seahawks’ dbs were referencing was the collection of comic book supervillians who are the enemies of the Justice League (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc.), not some 20 year old, 2 season wonder hockey trio from the other side of the country, and adapted to evoke their hard-hitting style, not to avoid any confusion or conflict with the Flyers.
Hey now…let’s not leave out one of the best tag teams from the days when wrestling was still entertaining (and yes, I know they’re better know as The Road Warriors…but stilll… )!
Now you know how Lex Luthor felt about the Flyers borrowing the name of his organization.
Seattle’s more of a basketball town anyway.
YOU TAKE THAT BACK

Their team has the best WNBA name ever.
Seriously Thunder is a WNBA name.
Ouch.
Legion of decent DBs (except ET3, he’s great)
Four people isn’t a legion. Always bothered me. They were more of a squad of doom. Not even a full squad at that.
You get about 4 muffins in those packets of little bites, but Bill Belicheck owns muffins, so its little bites of boom.
Also, The Iowa Barnstormers won the IFL title (known as the United bowl) over the sioux falls (fake) storm 42-38, and exact swap of the 1996 Arena Bowl when the Jay Gruden-led Tampa Bay (real) Storm beat the Kurt Warner-led Iowa Barnstormers 42-38.
It’s kind of crazy how quickly it all fell apart for Seattle. It kind of seemed like the Seattle defense just kind of poped out out existence all of a sudden. Just this year you have Kam retiring, Sherman getting cut, and Bennett being traded to the Eagles and now all you have on the defense it terms of proven starpower is ET3 and Bobby Wagner. Crazy how a team went from “playoff hopeful” to “lucky to be in contention for a wildcard position” in a few months.
Uh, and now Browner gets arrested on kidnapping charges?!?

Legion of Boom… definitely a dumb name.
I don’t feel so good Mr. Thomas…
Remember when Russel Wilson was going to win more Super Bowls than Tom Brady? Me too, good times.
Since TB only has 2 real ones, he still had time.

Classic Cutler.
Weird that you mentioned Brandon Browner. He was just charged with attempted murder.
