Jared Goff Wants To Start
I hope it’s not too subtle a joke, especially for the youngins of the readership who might think Trek is pew pew phasers and lens flares. Jeff Fisher is a man who seems to worship mediocrity and there isn’t much more mediocre (at least in Star Trek fandom) than Star Trek Voyager. A show I spent the last 6 months binging and mostly already forgot. Because Star Trek Voyager is a lot like the Rams. Lots of potential mostly not reached in order to play it safe. Jared Goff might be the breakout star this show needs to go 7-9. But we might never know, because Jared Goff doesn’t appear to exist while every other rookie QB is getting playing time.
Case Keenum was real bad against the Giants in London. The Giants defense basically had a stat boosting game. Before this week, the Giants were terrible at generating turnovers and getting sacks. They got 3 sacks and 4 picks, including probably the play of the week by Landon Collins and the worst communication of the year between Keenum and Quick on the game losing INT to DRC. I honestly didn’t even watch the game. It started at 6:30am for my west coast residence, and hell if I’m waking up at 6:30 to watch crappy London football. I feel bad for all the LA Rams fans who had to do that. Good job NFL, making an excited new fanbase watch their new team at an unreasonable time so you can further pimp a questionable business decision.
By my research (a google search for 5 minutes) Fisher is at 160 career losses, 6 away from owning the all time record (Held by Dan Reeves). Jeff Fisher is like that guy in the office who sucks at his job, but not enough to get fired, just enough to keep him off the radar of the boss while his co-workers stand around wondering how he’s still there. The only reason I can think of at this point as to why Goff hasn’t seen a snap yet is because maybe Fisher wants to sacrifice Keenum to the wolves since the O-line is garbage and Goff would be even less experienced there. But then you see that the Rams threw the ball 53 times on Sunday, and you shake your head. Fisher still has no idea how to manage an offense. Gurley isn’t playing well but you shouldn’t be trusting Case Keenum to throw 53 times. You traded up and drafted the guy #1 overall, let him try to play football.
I want Goff so I can scoff
Honestly from everything i’ve read Goff is apparently that bad. Throwing him to the wolves would probably kill his career before it even has a chance.
Like t couch
God don’t remind me about Couch. As a Kentucky fan I will go to my grave defending him. If he went to any other team besides the new Brown’s he has a decent career at worst. In fact I honestly doubt any QB in NFL history could’ve survived them the first couple years.
Wouldn’t 7 of 9 mean they were 7-2?
its not 7 of 9 its 7-9 which means seven wins and nine losses
Goff is overrated as a #1 pick, I still don’t know if he’ll be any good because he has terrible size for a QB
I am squarely in the camp of developing rookie QBs. If he’s not ready he’s not ready. I think we’re being very impatient just because other rookies are doing well.
Also, how does Dan Reeves have the most losses? He must have among the most wins too, he was a fantastic coach.
Nope, that would be Shula
Reeves is 9th all-time in wins (190) and 5th all-time in games coached (357). For comparison, Fisher is 11th all-time in wins (172) and 9th all-time in games coached (333). Both have career winning % under .540.
I think Reeves has the most losses due to a combination of 1) he had a long coaching career (22 or so seasons) 2) he had incredible success in Denver (0.601 winning percentage, 3 SB appearances) which bought him a lot of borrowed time even though he wasn’t able to replicate the same level of success with NYG or ATL and 3) the Super Bowl appearance in his second year with the Falcons bought him additional borrowed time, even though he only had one more winning season with them.
Rams have a bye this week. Bet Goff starts after that.
“No barging”
*BARGE*
nicely done
You forgot to give Fisher his tusks.
He only did a 7-9 job of grooming them, and you need an 8-8 job to keep them
stargate atlantis succeeded admirably where star trek voyager shrugged and walked away
Like the Eagles when it came to the 2016 draft
Y’all ready to watch baby-blue vs. PissShit
Jeff Fisher definitely looks like the kind of guy who jerks it without lube
See my handle for a link excellently explaining Voyager’s failings for those unaware.
You do know Jeff fisher is on the hot seat now right Dave?
I’m rooting for the enemy team for the next 4 games.
My favorite Trek is and always will be DS9. I like political intrigue and a view into the consequences of their meddling.
TNG did a lot to set up DS9. I’ve been watching a bit recently because it was on BBC America all day yesterday and I happened to be there at the right time. Lots of Bajorans and Cardassians around. The two were definitely my favorites, but I preferred TNG just a bit.
Classic Trek Movies (except ST 5) > TOS > DS9 > Next Gen > Next Gen Movies > Kelvin Timeline Movies > Voyager > Enterprise > Poop > ST 5: The Final Frontier.
I, on the other hand, actually *like* Voyager and think it’s a very good series. It’s not the awesomeness that DS9 is. But nothing is as awesome as DS9.
Considering Fisher is so terrible with (young) QBs he’s doing Goff a favor.
I understand the concept of wanting to bring around a qb slowly, but at some point you have to say, “He literally couldn’t be worse.”
On the Star Trek issue I would agree on 7 of 9 looking better when not sexed up for the audience – Jeri Ryan is good looking enough as is.
On the series however, I disagree. Voyager is by far the bottom of the pile. With the good ones you can always argue, I’d rate DS9>TNG>TOS, with the even movies of these series somewhere inbetween mostly, dropping down for the uneven ones. Then Enterprise which had at least potential. Kelvin Movie I aka Star Trek was also okay, unfortunately JJ later forgot what Star Trek was. Then comes Whirlwound’s poop. Then Voyager. It’s not mediocre, not 7-9, it’s right down there with the Lions on a bad day or the Browns on any day. Only you can sympathize with Lions and Browns.
