Joe Philbin Gets Canned
Lol after week 1 the first thing I thought about the Dolphins was “Wow, they should have creamed the Skins, I wonder what that means”. Turns out the Skins might be slightly better than expected. After week 2 I had this distinct feeling the Dolphins might actually be a bad team. After week 3 I pretty much firmly believed they were. This past week probably proved it to anyone left who wasn’t convinced. Teams that have given up just seem to have a certain look to them. There is never any urgency, never anything spontaneous or full of extra effort. Players don’t seem to fight for anything and just appear to go through the motions. Suh “freelancing” on plays in week 2 just shows you how little respect they had weeks ago.
I never thought much of Philbin as a coach. He was the world’s blandest man, with mild humor so dry it made California look like a rainforest. But the Phins should have trended upwards. They have Jarvis Landry. They got Suh. Wake. Tannehill kept getting incrementally better. They got rid of Jeff Ireland. They should have at least looked average, but something clearly wasn’t there.
I don’t know what to expect from the Phins now. This is an early firing and they grabbed the TE coach of all people for the job. He’ll have no pressure on him since nobody will expect a thing from him, but it’s pretty early in the season to house clean that hard.
Side note: Stephen Ross becomes the 13th owner to be portrayed in TDP. The most useless stat.
You’ve got a typo in the last panel.
Can’t wait until you’ve shown all 31 owners!
Don’t you mean 31,000
All I know is my gut says maybe.
If I don’t make it out of London tell my wife I said “hello.”
It’s a beige alert!
I’ll be honest, I thought that Miami would be 4-0 at this point and by this time in 2 weeks they’d be the last unbeaten with their first ever franchise victory over the Texans (yes, Miami is 0-9 against the Texans in franchise history) before crashing and burning at the end of the year to fall to 9-7, finishing just short of the playoffs ending Philbin’s boring tenure at 32-32. At least the new guy sounds like he’s from the 70’s and will be tough on the team before they fall to 5-11 and end up with Colin Kapernick, no first rounder, and a 26 million dollar DT.
Am I the only one who wanted to see Philbin landing in the middle of the Atlantic next to Dennis Allen?
DA: “Wow. What goes around comes around, huh.”
Its becoming a tradition. Start shitty, fly over the pond, get clowned and then shred your HC’s return flight.
“He first joke…”
You’re slipping, Dave.
Am I the only one who noticed the Dolphins logo on steroids in the background?
While this one is as funny as Philbin, I can’t wait for your Lions-Seahawks edition, Dave…
“Funny as Philbin”
Ouch man, that hurts
Looking back at it, the writing was on the wall for Philbin since the Suh signing. Ross, Tannenbaum, and Hickey introduced him to the press. Philbin was sitting with the reporters.
I’ve been against every move the Dolphins have made (or not made) this offseason, save for trading Wallace away. Giving a defensive tackle quarterback money, extending a mediocre quarterback one year before you had to, keeping Philbin, not promoting Kacy Rodgers (once the Dolphins DL coach, now the Jets DC) to defensive coordinator and instead keeping Coyle, promoting Tannenbaum to head personnel man, not getting a single linebacker despite that being what your scheme needs and only having a single viable one. Tannehill is starting to make strides, so what do you do? Blow up the receiving corps and make him have to adjust to all-new receivers. I should have expected this season to be a dumpster fire, but the Dolphins have been mediocre for so long that I just assumed they’d do the same.
Yet, I am entirely unsurprised that the players gave up on Philbin so easily. He’s not exactly a great motivator. They were the type of team that could have a bad start and have the season snowball into a 2-14 kind of year. I think that’s why Ross cut the cord so early. They can still aspire to mediocrity.
The worst thing is? Ross didn’t even meet Philbin face to face. He fired him over the phone.
Could we PLEASE get an unobstructed, full version of the SWOLE DOLPHINS LOGO?
It’s part of a whole Steroid NFL logo set I made two months ago

Oh hell yes. That is so satisfying. That Bengal is about the most bad-assed thing I’ve seen, and that’s coming from someone who once blew Teddy Roosevelt.
at least 14 owners actually since you had me on there once, and I’m a Packers owner 😛
