Trent Richardson comes to the Raiders
Remember when Trent Richardson was drafted #3 overall and then 3 turned into his average yards per carry?
The Raiders have so much cap space and a GM who comes from the Ted Thompson school of management of building through the draft and being conservative in free agency. It’s kind of sad, the Raiders could easily overpay a few mid level guys or a Suh and still be perfectly fine. Instead they sign Ponder and Roy Helu. They aren’t slam dunks. Those are like…a free throw in the second while down by 10. It helps but come on. Gimme that 3 pointer. Risky shot but you gotta shoot a few to get anywhere. When Trent Richardson scores a touchdown (just play along) he’s gonna try and jump into the Black Hole and accidentally run into the camera man.
I hope a Bama fan reads this and starts spouting how good Richardson is at me like the last time I mocked him on twitter. I love it when college fans are unable to accept that a player who was good for their school didn’t work out in the NFL.
The very thought that Phyllis from the Paul Finebaum Show has the tech to read The Draw Play, never mind actually do so, chills me to the bone. I thought my sister was psychotic until I heard her.
Wait, is that the woman they sometimes play in the radio spots who’s yelling about Paul being evil? I’ve never listened to his show (timing isn’t great as I’m in the UK) so never heard the context…
That’s the one, bud. I only get those bits as well, and am eternally thankful for it. Those callers are like working the prepay helpline at an energy supplier – you can hear the brain dribbling out the other ear of some of them.

Not a Bama fan, but T-Rich was a fantastic college back. Better than Ingram in my opinion. Much better. Ingram seems to be coming around to the pro game. But Trent just hasn’t gotten it. He’s never once really looked like the same back from his college days. Maybe it was being surrounded by superior talent. Part of it seems to be a lack of effort and focus. I would like to see him settle in as a decent back but time is running out on that.
Look at Alabama’s o-line compared to the opposing defense and you’ll see why they always seem to have superstud running backs.
Lacy and Ingram aren’t too bad in the pros, even if it took Ingram a while to get it going. Can’t lay all the credit on the OL.
If men are “Sexy Rexys” what does the women’s sign say? “Rexy’s Sexys?” I’m out of ideas.
Richardson actually isn’t bad in short-yardage/goal-line situations. He pretty reliably gets that one yard you need. Course, the problem is that he also pretty reliably gets that one yard when you want a 4-yard gain at least.
Looking at the evidence, that facedent has only made Westbrook stronger, too.

To jump on the last tangent: I say this as a massive UGA fan. There is simply no way Gurley becomes an elite running back in the NFL unless something int he ballpark of a biblical miracle happens. At best I see him becoming a Sproles style journeyman RB, capable of great things in short bursts and a greater asset to Special Teams than to the offense itself.
Matter of curiosity, could you elaborate? He looked pretty damn amazing from what I saw, and it looked like NFL stuff, not college dominance that goes away in pros. Not saying you’re wrong, but I’m curious to the specifics?
This didn’t age well
The best thing about Trent Richardson is that what should have been a miraculous trade for Cleveland, taking advantage of a drunken Irsay who mixed up Richardson’s college game tapes with his NFL ones… and turned it into Johnny Manziel. Because Factory of Sadness.
That joke at the end was painfully predictable, but nonetheless still clever.

Roy Helu IS a mid-level guy (and they got him at a good rate). Nate Allen is a mid-level guy they overpaid for (because they could afford it). And the Raiders signed some other mid-high level FAs like Rodney Hudson and Dan Williams. Sorry that linemen aren’t sexy enough for you to know who they are.
