Michael Sam
My first thought when I heard the news about Michael Sam coming out: “Good for him. It’s about time we had some progress there”
My second thought: “Let the shitstorm commence”
My support is fully behind Michael, and I hope he turns into a Hall of Famer and makes it so gay players don’t have to hide themselves from a homophobic culture. This is a big deal, and I hope he’s ready and surrounded by good people for the media storm that will follow him for a while. There is a lot to say on this matter, for everyone, but I’d rather not go into all that because if you support the guy you probably feel the same way about it all that I do, and nothing I say on the topic will not be said better by smarter people than myself in the coming months.
I just want to voice my support for him. Go get ’em, Sam.
Hmm… Seeing his (whatever the black smudge under his eyes is called) brought this thought to my mind.
What if he gets drafted by the Redskins and does find “Sexy Rexy” sexy? and if the feeling was mutual would they adopt Catler?
Sexy Rexy is a free agent & is likely unleashing his dragon in Cleveland
I would certainly welcome him if he were to become a Patriot or not. I wish him the best of luck.
The guys a damn good football player and that’s all that matters to me.
Not gonna lie, when I first saw this all I could think was “why is Michael Sam ending up on the Browns?”
I hope the Colts draft him.
The Seahawks would take him and accept him just fine.
Dont u dare blame dis on vontaze — vontaze
why would we?
Don’t get them started!!!
If there’s one thing Macklemore told me, it’s that being gay or lesbian doesn’t prevent you from living your life
Just want to say: No one says anything about how gay Terry Bradshaw is, or Deion Sanders. They should just let the cat play.
Oh he will play in the NFL. No doubt there. In fact, I hope Cleveland drafts him and Pettine turns him into the ultimate pass rusher. But I believe you have erred in your spelling of the term “gay”. The gay community I know reclaimed that term by spelling it g-e-i-g-h when using it to describe someone as dumb and obnoxious.
I would welcome Michael to come to the Giants.
The GMs and scouts shouldn’t focus on his sexual orientation, they should focus on his performance. We all should, he did a good job at Missouri in his senior year, leading the SEC in sacks. All that should matter is his performance on the field.
Mara and Reese already said his orientation has precisely dick in terms of impact on their draft boards…
I wish the best of luck to him. The fact this is still such a controversial topic in 2014 is ridiculous, and hopefully he can shatter this barrier.
On a somewhat related note, am I the only one who’s a little bugged by the amount of heat Jonathan Vilma’s comments got? I don’t have much tolerance for homophobia – my best friend is an awesomely chill lesbian – but his comments sounded like someone who’s ignorant and doesn’t know any better, not someone who’s hateful and bigoted. It’s a dialog that needs to be had, because there are a lot of people that I think would have open arms to the situation if you educated them instead of berating them.
I can’t believe the attention it gets. Why do people care if he’s gay? He’s a football player. Doesn’t matter what his preference is, we don’t choose that; he does.
Like players are dumb by wonderlic standards or have “behavioral problems” or catfished girlfriends… espn and the masses make a big deal out of it because they know it’s the kind of fire people will fuel either ignorantly or passively.
Sam might be a great player, or an average one, or a terrible one. Just like EVERY other football player to reach the NFL. His preferences don’t impact his play.
Honestly there’s been like zero homophobia compared to what I expected
kid is brave but for real tho hes not gonna be happy in the locker room and guys like to be naked so maybe he makes us not want that now
Jeff Garcia approves.
