Power Outage

Had a real stupid pun-based comic cooking when my lights flickered twice and shut off for about a minute. It was just long enough to kill the power on my computer and I hadn’t saved anything, and the autosaves didn’t stick thanks to the power cycling just long enough.
It will go up on Friday I guess
A UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) can solve the issue of losing work to power blips very nicely. Just make sure you’re getting one that can handle the power demands of your PC when it’s at peak output (since you have to run the power to the PC through the UPS regardless of whether you have outlet power or not). Costs like $80-200 for one for a home or gaming PC.
Basically, it’s a surge protector with an additional battery backup. It won’t last forever, but it’ll stop the system from hard crashing during a power outage. Some of them even have software to automatically shut the computer down if the battery in the UPS is running low, although you have to connect it to the PC via USB or some other connector for that which may not be an option if you, like me, are a USB port usage addict.
Was about to recommend the same thing. People really should have a UPS for their PC.
I love using these. However, they are not appealing to the eye so things like our cable modem and tv/game area the wife will not let me put one. True first world problem…
The equivalent: A laptop. Its own built-in UPS!
that sucks man
