Zygi Wilf buys a Super Bowl

Again, older news that I never got to, but deserved a joke.
Has anyone actually looked up the requirements for cities to host the Super Bowl? The NFL is shameless in how is screws cities over and I can’t believe cities sign up for it.
It’s still better than getting the Olympics…
Is it Vikings owner Zygi Wilf, or Alex Trebek circa 1998? You decide!
Cities don’t sign up for it. They BID for it. Like an auction. They beg to be taken by the NFL.
Yahoo recently ran an article about what the NFL expects from a host city. Some of the requirements are understandable, such as enough hotel rooms, but a bowling alley and golf course? Really?
Still a better fit than Brazil for the Olympics. Apparently in addition to demolishing neighborhoods for that world cup stadium that will only be used four times, they’re publicly funding Olympic facilities that are similarly overpriced and similarly unsupportable for the local population.
Don’t want to derail, but I can’t contribute anything else on this one.
I don’t think we have the public transit or a well-enough designed city to support it well. Gonna be a hell of a fortnight dealing with all this shit.
It was a pain in the ass for the greater NY area to handle a super bowl, and they actually have some of the best mass transit in the country (yes the subways have a reputation for being sketchy, but nowadays it’s largely undeserved). Somehow I believe the NFL’s demands are becoming unrealistic…
They sure as fuck were unrealistic when it was dangerously cold wild card weekend and still wanted every playoff game to be sold out!
Wrong! It’s funny because taxpayers end up subsidizing the stadium regardless.
Every city ends up hoping the payoff of all the added tourism outweighs the cost. They’re often wrong, overall.
This is how Qatar got the World Cup
